Sarastro is an interesting restaurant. It is a pity that the food falls short of making it a very good restaurant. More attention to the food would be welcomed.

Why are the staff in such a hurry to serve each course? No sooner have we finished the main course and the dessert appears! A calm, quiet interval between courses should be the norm.

Finally, if there are musicians in the restaurant - there no doubt at the invitation of the management - why do they come round the tables "begging" for money? I have not encountered this behaviour in other restaurants. Why do Sarastro's do it?

I took my partner to Sarastro as a surprise for his 40th Birthday, on the recommendation of a few friends.

We'd had a lovely day in London, he'd had a few surprise presents throughout the day on a bit of a mystery tour of the city. We got to Sarastro and were seated in an alcove, which we didn't find suitable, and were quickly moved to the upper area.

It's all very theatrical/bedouin tent like but quite cramped with steps to the upper area that made me cringe every time the waiter came to serve us.

Visiting the toilets was eye opening, but we'd already been warned about the decor, which was one of my partners' birthday surprises.

The food was nice, reasonably priced, but not what I expected from a London restaurant, could've got the same at Harvester.

It was a bit of a let down following a day of fun & surprises, I think what really, really lets the place down is the graffiti actually all over the restaurant area.

Would not recommend or revisit. Sorry.

I visited Sarastro,s for my 60th birthday in January 2009, I had a wonderful night. My partner and I enjoyed the meal AND FOUND THE FOOD QUITE REASONABLE. .A lthough the entertainment was classical music (Sunday Evening) it was lighthearted and very entertaining. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANY ONE.

I am amazed at the miserable people who review this restaurant.. Some said it was past its sell by date...I think they are too.

Its fun, lively, the waiters were more than pleasant. OK maybe the food is not fantastic.....but I wouldn't go to Sarastros for the food.

If you love life or even just love....this is a fun place to go. I loved it and would go again.

The harsh critics have no romance in their souls...get a life.

This restaurant is exciting and fabululous. If you love the theatre you'll love this place. It's pure theatrical design. Roughly put together, mismatching decor and lots of odd bits and pieces of fabrics all thrown together with fun and lustre. The food is alright but you go there for entertainmnt and atmosphere more than anything else.

Price wise it's reasonable and the service is good. Sunday and Monday nights live musicians come in and the place is alive with laughter and applause.

Go for a great evening out with freinds - you won't regret it.

I went to Sarastro for the first time last year on my birthday and it was great! Both food and service were really good.

Yesterday however, was far away from my previous experience. First of all, they do not tell you on their website or when you book via telephone that the a la carte menu is unavailable in December - only a very limited christmas menu is served.

The food was nothing special at all, the bread was stale and cold (like it came straight from a fridge) and my turkey was overcooked and dry and the gravy quite bland. Fair enough, it's 20 pounds a head without drinks - but I could have made far faaaar better food in my own home for much less!

The service was not good AT ALL - the waitress was very unprofessional (touching the bread in the basket with her hands) and kept looking at her watch when serving us (pressing for the next slot of guests I guess?).

I'm very dissappointed as we told them on the phone this was a special occasion. I will surely never go there again - it is not worth the money.

Do yourself a favour ,don`t even go there.I had visited the restaurant on `Opera` night a few years ago,and had a pleasant evening. Not this weekend.I visited last night with my family for my Mum`s 70th birthday.Should have taken her to KFC,at least that is edable.Sarastro squashed six of us in a crampt table. The menu lacked choice, the pate came without bread,i got 3 prawns, the scampi was cold. Then the main course, steak was bloody, the veggies were thrown on the plate, and looked like they were out of the freezer cabinet .The chips like cold cardboard.Rush ,rush ,rush ,and after less than 2 hours they wanted their table back.My cousin said fine,we were just finishing our coffee, you don`t have to`joked` the waiter,he wern`t joking. There was 90 mugs queing outside waiting to be caught. To top in all a £26 service charge. What a rip off.

I went here with a couple of friends about a year ago. The food was terrible. The only reason to go here is for the surroundings. The fruit salad was a bowl of uncut fruit.

Great company, hilarious over the top decor which gave the restaurant character. The food was the most bland, cooked from frozen and tasteless meal I have had in a decade. I have been in the catering industry for many years and I am usually quite forgiving on poor quality, but this was dreadful. I am really glad the service staff did not ask me how my meal was, for I would have been extremely honest. Our bill for 4 was £150. I cannot believe they are still in business. I think the decor is keeping it going. Some of the reviews I have read from people have given this restaurant a score above 5/10. I would give it a 1/10, whch is a score for barely edible solids.
