Smollensky's on the Strand

Service was good. Waitress was attentive and polite. Surprised to read other comments about poor service. Starters (salad, chicken wings, calamari) all fine. Main course of surf and turf disgusting. It's 24 hours on and I can still taste the one prawn I ate. Steak was overcooked despite the flag in it that said 'medium rare'. Disappointing.

Value is OK but you need the 50% off food deal for it to be worthwhile.

Last night, I went to Smollensky’s Bar and Grill with two friends for the pre theatre dinner. After being in Smollenskys for after work drinks and thinking it had a nice atmosphere to it and thinking the food looked nice, I was looking forward to an evening of good food and entertainment.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The service and food at Smollensky’s was appalling; we waited an hour for our starter to arrive and when it did, the soup was served with no bread, the fishcakes tasted stale and the salad was a few lettuce leaves covered in dressing. The dinner took a further 45 minutes to arrive. The pasta arrived with no chicken, tomato or mushroom, just pasta and cream sauce. And due to the late arrival of the food, we had no time to complain as the show was about to start and we had to leave. We tried to gain the attention of several waitresses and waiters on four occasions. On all four occasions, we were looked at and ignored. It wasn’t until we got up to leave, that a waitress came to us, for us to pay for the wine; as the meal had already been paid for online. The cheek of it, she slapped on a service charge!

The service was appalling and we were treated like we didn’t matter. The food was just as inedible. As for value of money, I would have been better going to McDonalds. Don’t get me wrong, I know there are always occasional hiccups in restaurants but we weren’t the only table with the same complaints!

On a good note, the toilets were clean and the musical of Legally Blonde was outstanding.

I certainly won’t be going back to Smollensky’s and I won’t recommend the place to anyone!

I was there with my partner on 24/11/09, for pre-meal dinner and drinks. The place was great, staff were very friendly, food was good price as it was on offer in line with the theatre we were going to.

All was good apart from perhaps the pasta could have done with a little more ingredients, but I had a fab night there and I would go back.

Don't knock it until you've tried it!!

We visited Smollenkys on the stand on the 30th Oct 2009 for lunch after booking on line for the 50% off meal offer. The place was not busy but it still took 40 minutes for the staff to take our order. We had our luggage with us as we came directly from kings cross. We expected to be asked what drinks we wanted but instead every time we tried to get the staffs attention to order they ignored us. The order was eventually taken 50 minutes after we arrived. The food took about 30 minutes to come and was quite nice. When we ordered our sweets 2 of them came straight away but we were left waiting 30 minutes until we said cancel the third sweet because we had to go. The waitress looked behind her and said oh its here waiting for you do you still want it? so i said yes the sweet was lovely. When we asked for the bill the 50% was not taken off until we produced the e-mail confirmation. It still worked out reasonably priced but there was some confusion. The staff did not really look after us very well. A little more professionalism would of been nice. We will not be going there again.

Had a lovely night last Sun. Food very good. Background music made a great atmosphere.Our waitress Micha was a very pleasent girl, for all these reasons will deffo go back again!!!!

My husband and little girl were travelling here on vacation from the US when we heard about the family day offered at Smollensky's. It was great. Considering that we're two out of towners with a little one to show around London, this was a great family restaurant. It had a nice decor, children's programs on the tvs, a video game set up and when my husband told the receptionist it was my birthday within five minutes our table was decorated with streamers and balloons. The magician was nice and made my daughter laugh--she had a great time.

We didn't try the cocktails but our food was delicious. The burger I had was great, big portions and my daughter liked her chicken fingers with her kids' menu. The cheesecake dessert was delicious, and overall it was the little touches that made this experience a warm home away from home. If we're ever back in London, we'll definitely come here.

1st September 2009. My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with a pre-theatre dinner at Smollensky's on The Strand.

Oh, what a disappointment. Not only were the staff rude and really could not care less but the food was very disappointing. I wanted to contact Smollensky's direct but was unable to email them - what does that say. We certainly wont be recommending this place to any of our friends or colleagues. They really should learn customer service.......
