Texas Embassy Cantina

Just came back from the Texas Embassy.... Definitely the most dreadful place to eat in London. Expensive and inflexible ( they won't change a side dish if you dislike the one that comes with the meal, you can't change your order without causing a problem with their system, etc. etc. etc.)
Felt so sorry for the staff, three people in the kitchen serving 60 people in the restaurant, hence, long time until the food is delivered to you. Service charge not included, I thought slave labour was prohibited by now? Obviously not in Texas... Respect to the staff who managed to stay friendly!
Food itself was the worst Mexican trash I ever came across: old lettuce on the verge of turning brown, Nachos are completely taste free and the hot food tasted like heated up a few times too often.
The plate of our starter was the dirtiest I've seen so far, the floor of the place filthy beyond belief, the table sticky.

I recently ate here as part of a friend's hen night celebrations. My expectations had not been particularly high, but as we waited for our pre-booked table to become available, half an hour after the agreed time, I was impressed by the look of the food that was arriving at other people's tables. The salsa which came with the free tortillas was excellent, but unfortunately that is where the praise ends. Admittedly, we were a large party, but our drinks order took half an hour to arrive, and the bride-to-be was left without hers for another 15 minutes. The food order took further hour to be delivered to the table. I can't vouch for the quality of everyone else's food, as the volume of the live music act prevented conversation with anyone but your neighbours, but the chicken fajitas I had the misfortune of consuming were appalling. The onions and peppers were raw, and the chicken was clearly pre-prepared. With the exception of the onions and peppers in direct contact with the hot plate on which the sorry spectacle arrived, the entire dish was cold. The tortillas provided were miniscule and although salsa had been advertised as an accompanying condiment, there was none in evidence. All of which might have been forgiven, had it not been for the price: £15.95. You could cook Old El Paso packet fajitas for 10 people for that amount, and they would be far superior.
A very disappointing dining experience.

Texas Embassy,
Is one of the best places to eat in London, The people who have made negative comments just don't know how to have a good time and enjoy good food at a good price in a fantastic atmosphere.
Keep up the good work Texas Embassy I will keep coming back with my friends and family, just love the place.

Top Notch. One of the best, Nice decor, you're inside but feel outside.
the Maragitas are perfect, nice on an early summers evening then go for a stroll round trafalgar square and Picidlliy circus. The condorman of food.

Texas Embassy
If you come to eat here I suspect fall into one of the following categories: a. you are an unwitting tourist, b. you are into postmodern irony.
The menu from the outset looks reasonable, a classic selection of tex-mex dishes at slightly inflated prices, although it’s somewhat understandable considering its location just off Trafalgar square. Whilst you browse the menu and take in the kitch décor the waiters bring over a basket of freshly baked crispy tortilla chips and home-made salsa. However, things started turning to the worse when we were served with an ice-tea that tasted of infused sock juice. After a 45 minute wait and reminding the waiter three times that we did not think a well-done steak really took this long to cook, we were served with a lukewarm plate of enchiladas, the melted cheese having coagulated a while ago. As to the steak, it was tough on the outside and rare on the inside. We did not bother with desserts, having to wait another 10 minutes before finally getting the bill. Verdict: I would only recommend visiting for a novelty drink and a snack, the building being the only real attraction.

Visited the Embassy recently and was thrilled with the atmosphere and true Tex-Mex food. Had World Class Chili. Some of the best I have eaten. Have been there many times over the years and always encourage my friend to go try it. A little slice of home in London.

Why all the bad reviews?
Went for an after work meal on the 22nd feb 08 and had a wonderful time.
Had drinks at the bar to start, with which we received free nachos and dip.
When seated at our table more free nachos, we then ordered our meals which were delivered in good time, the food tasted great and portions were huge.
The staff were polite, the only downfall was that there was only one person at the bar who was making drinks for the tables and the bar so service was quite slow.
we couldnt hadle anything else after our mains so had a few cocktails, one thing i must mention is that the only toilets are up 2 flights of stairs which are not the nicest are a few drinks.
Definately worth a visit though.

Dined here with friends on Sunday evening 02 Feb 2008 and both the service and food were dreadful. Our waitress was not just inattentive, she was totally disinterested. Tend to agree with earlier reviewers who feel that the staff has just 'given up' and that there is no apparent restaurant management.
The waitress thought that our main course choices were not available and asked for our second choice but never returned to inform us what we would actually be eating.
The steaks were not 'juicy' as advertised, but dry and tasteless (suspect frozen like everything else), the fries were greasy and limp and even the chilli was bland.
Despite informing our waitress that we were not satisfied, there was no apology and no referral to the manager.
The only thing keeping this restaurant open must be first time tourist trade as I cannot believe that people would actually go back a second time.

I went to the Texas Embassy with some guys from home, and I'm afraid it was probably one of the worst restaurant visits I (and they) have had. The one central thing you would expect in a mexican restaurant (besides margeritas) is Guacamole - well, not in this one! As everyone knows, guacamole requires avocado, but that obvoiusly was not known to Texas Embassy, who had no avocado left in the restaurant (except for one dry spoon-ful, which was placed on one of the guys T-bone steaks). We came fairly early on a saturday afternoon, and it would have been no problem to run to any grocery store around the corner to get som guacamole, but that possibility had not struck to anyone at Texas embassy. A couple of other dishes were finished to. Our waiter tried, some, but didn't really take his job seriously, in fact he appeared as he had given up on the whole thing. Service was slow although the place wasn't even half-full.The place appeared to have no management...I couldn't recomend it to anyone, and in hindsight, we shouldn't have bothered to stay in the first place.
