One of my favourite places to go for breakfast- all the food is cooked perfectly and the staff are helpful and efficient. The coffee and hot chocolate are especially good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I rang yesterday to book a business breakfast for my boss and a business contact. The slightly curt sounding Eastern European woman who answered would not take a booking for breakfast. She then told me the restaurant opened at 9am. My boss decided to risk it and turned up at 9am, only to find the restaurant opens at 9.30am. It promotes its breakfasts, but only opens at 9.30 am? Nul points I'm afraid.

My daughter and I had a pre theatre dinner at Tuttons on Saturday 3rd Nov 2007. We arrived at 5.15pm, the place was packed to the gills but we were shown straight to our table. We waited for about 10 minutes and were offered a drinks menu by a smiling waitress. Drinks came quickly. I ordered crab cakes for starter... delicious and cooked to perfection.

Main courses were lovely and arrived hot and served by our waitress.

Desserts were lovely, my daughter said it was the best cheescake she'd had. My special pistachio and plum crumble was pretty good too.

Yes, adding 15% service charge is not a good practice. I like to decide if service is worth that amount.

All in all we had a good meal at a not to steep a price for Covent garden.

I would return again.

I ate at Tuttons with a friend this week .The whole experience was poor. Service was inadequate when we first arrived though picked up when a helpful waitress did her best. The food was almost cold. The waitress took it back to the kitchen but when it was served again there was no improvement. We did not eat most of our order. We were offered a discount. We said we did not want to pay for the items we complained about - twice - and this was agreed. I was horrified at the automatic inclusion of 15% service charge on the bill after such an awful experience. Although the manager was made aware of our complaints very little was done to rectify the situation. I would avoid this restaurant for many reasons but never before have i returned food because it was inedible!

My wife and I had a meal at this restaurant prior to going to an evening performance at a nearby theatre. We were joined by our son and his partner who had made the booking. Having read the poor reviews on this website we were somewhat apprehensive but what we experienced was very pleasing.

Our waitress was very helpful and gave us good service. Our pre-dinner drinks were served soon after our arrival. Our food orders were taken shortly after and each course was served without any delay.

There was a good choice of meals on the menu. The prices were a little on the high side but the quality and presentation of the food was excellent.

This was an very enjoyable meal in a good atmosphere with good service. We would eat here again if we were in the area.

As this place is on the main square, expect to pay a premium. Though I must say that our eyes watered at the bill that came. As with other reviewers, food that was ordered never arrived. We asked for a bottle of water - as well as our wine - and reminded the waiter again and it never came. Why is the service here so bad? It really isn't that crowded. The staff are completely disinterested. That said, the food is OK. Our pumpkin ravioli starter was pleasant enough but could have been warmer. Ditto the chicken. We had two jugs of Pimms which were well made and not mean with the alcohol content. But we had to quibble with the bill - which I hate doing - because of course, they'd charged us for the stuff that hadn't arrived. These sort of restaurants always forget to bring what you've ordered but never forget to charge you for it!

We had an early dinner in Tuttons on a sunday - we picked the place because of the the outdoors seating.

It took about 20 minutes before somebody took our order, despite there being an army of black clad waiting staff aimlessly wandering around.

We almost got up and left twice

The waiter went through a hard sell routine to force bread, olives, mineral water and other food accessories on us.

Given the long wait for service, we weren't brave enough to commit to a full meal and decided to have starters only.

The items ordered then arrived in the following order - water, food, and a good while later 2 glasses of wine. We had ordered a semillon chardonnay - average - a sauvignon, which tasted suspiciously watered down.

The food - crab cake and grilled goat cheese on bread - was below average.

We had to ask for our bill 3 times - and finally went to pay at the till.

The only enjoyable aspect of this visit was watching people walking past, otherwise it was a complete rip off.

I went here with a group of 18 for a friend's 30th birthday. The restaurant's two redeeming features were the cocktail bar downstairs and the good customer service training of the manager.

Where do I start with the rest?

- We were sat at our table an hour after our booking time

- We didn't get the side dishes OR the coffee/mints promised on the menu

- The menu - at 38 quid a head - was ordinary, and left some people hungry as the side dishes never arrived

- Our waiter brought out the card machine BEFORE the dessert dishes were cleared or a bill was issued, and then, when queried about our missing coffee, had the gall to tell us they had actually shut 45 minutes ago and that he was 'too tired' to deal with it. He then proceeded to throw the card machine down on a table.

The manager, once finally alerted to what was going on, stepped in and won back some much-needed credibility for the restaurant with a good discount and complimentary sparkling wine to make up for our wait.

Luckily, all of this didn't dampen the spirits of our group, but I won't be eating here again and certainly won't be recommending it to anyone.

WATCH FOR THE 'RECOMMENDED GRAT'

Ate here early Monday evening, following a beautiful spring day. On a business trip, I was eating alone, staying nearby. This appeared to be one of the best-looking, mid-priced, mid-range-menu places at Covent Garden. Eveything went fairly much as you'd expect (although I had to hunt for someone to show me to a seat - maybe they didn't want my custom). Wine was nice enough - and available by the glass so I could mix-and-match. Food was unspectacular but not disappointing. Crabcake starter was a little bland but OK. I chose a steak for main course and for some reason it was impossible to have this without a sauce (even though this came as a side dish!?) Fries were inexcusably limp but mayonnaise provided on request.

When time came to pay, I had credit card to the ready. The waiter told me how much it was (bill was placed in folded card on table) and duly typed the amount into his machine. I willingly accepted and I offered 10% tip when the machine prompted me - service had been OK but not spectaular. It was only afterwards that I double checked bill and discovered that 'Recommended Grat 15%' had been added to the bill.

OK - so I'd been foolish not to check but waiter had also made a point of not brining it to my attention! On my way out I suggested to the waiter that 25% was a hefty tip, recommending the default 'gratuity' should be highlighted (as it is in other establishments who feel it necessary to increase the bill without asking). A short shrug and off he went, guaranteeing I would never return and ensuring I would leave my thoughts on any review site willing to listen.

My mother and I stumbled across This place yesterday while we were looking for somewhere for a drink and a nibble before a show. It was a nice sunny afternoon so we wanted to sit outside and this seemed the perfect spot.

I don't doubt that the food was very good becasue everything coming out looked delicious, but the service was dire.

We arrived before 5pm and there were very few people that we could see. It took 15 mintues for anyone to take our drinks order. We decided to have some nibbles rather than a meal which came out very quickly, but the food was finished before the drinks even arrived!

When we ordered our second drinks it took 3 seperate attempts to ask the waiter for a cup of coffee and a total of one hour for it to finally arrive!

On the third attempt (and the only reason we stayed was because we were meeting another person there later) it again took 2 requests!

In the meantime there were several complaints from other guests around us who never recieved their food orders.

When we finally received the bill we were astonished to discover that we were being charged an additional 15% for service! Very Very poor experience and I advise you to give this place a wide berth if you are in any kind of hurry!
