I first ate in the Lido 25 years ago as a 17 year old venturing to London from leafy Bucks. I have never eaten in another restaurant in China town. I go to Lido 5 or six times a year...and yes they rush you about a bit at the end but I have never had a problem with this. The food is as good as you will find anywhere else, the value is fantastic, I have taken my parents there a number of times, my Brother and his New Yorker wife (and we all know how fussy they can be) my children, their girlfriends, mates from way up North, even my Brother in Law who practically lives in London....one common thing here....they all love it in the Lido!...Ok if you are a foodie nit picker you will find fault, but whatever your fancy you won't go wrong here

I have eaten at Lido restaurant several times. It used to be very good. Unfortunately, the last two times the food has been quite poor. The sizzling beef in chilli and black-bean sauce was served on a hot plate that was only hot on one side and had little flavour. The noodles were mushy and bland. The mixed roast meat selection was sloppy and was missing the crispy belly pork with which it is usually served. The only good thing about the meal was the duck starter which was quite tasty. I think I am very unlikely to return to Lido.

I think that this restaurant must have changed hands.

Sunday dim sum, November 21st 2009 was the worst I have ever eaten. Some of it was inedible. The dumplings were gluey, the chicken was not real but came in sticks alongside crab sticks ( not mentioned on the menu.) I have tried many restaurants in Chinatown and this was by far and away the worst. I was with a Chinese person who also agreed.

Avoid it at all costs.

Excellent restaurant and wonderful food - the crispy duck is to die for and the set meals are good value.

Service is quick and staff are very friendly. The restaurant can get very busy but large upstairs area and staff are very accommodating to children.

Would certainly recommend - come back every time we visit china town.

I've been going to Lido for years...and there service and food has always been great. I remember getting loliipops from the staff (who are a much nicer than other waiters at other chinese restaurants) when I was little! :D

Their lobster noodles and steamed scallops are fantastic. Of course, their aromatic crispy duck is always yummy.

I would definitely recommend Lido!

I was very shocked to read a few of the reviews here that criticise the food at Lido. I am a BBC (british born chinese for those of you who don't know the term) and I've been pigging out at Lido since I was young. Admittedly, I only go for the dim sum, because as most Chinese people will tell you, the dinner menus in Chinatown aren't great wherever you go - too much cornflour, MSG etc - so most Chinese people I know prefer to cook that sort of thing at home. Dim sum is difficult to make and a lot of work to organise, so we all go into soho for that - and in my opinion, there's no better place for it than Lido. The food is served quickly and always hot, and it's very good value for money - unlike some of the new swanky dim sum places that seem to serve fancy-looking, below-par dim sum at exorbitant prices.

Unfortunately I agree with the service points that many reviewers have made, but let's face it - if you've been to a cantonese restaurant in Hong Kong you'll know, having a lovely meal and then getting turfed out on your backside as soon as your tip hits the plate is all part of the authentic HK restaurant experience.

I recently had dinner at Lido with some western friends. This is my first time at this restaurant and I am amazed to read generally good review... albeit for dim sum. I can tell you from a Chinese perspective the food is not good. Maybe because we ordered from the set menu. The spare ribs did not have enough seasoning. The crispy duck was dry. The sizzling beef was tasteless. The best thing was the crispy beef. The fried rice was tasteless. Overall, it was not good food and service was mediocre at best.

I've been to Lido ever since I was a child from when the restaurant was a fast food place to a restaurant. The food is FANTASTIC. The food is reasonably priced and its probably the best dim sum I have had and I've been to a lot of restaurants in my time. My friends have come from Hong Kong and China and visited me and I always take them to Lido and they have all complimented on the food and say it tastes better than alot of places in Hong Kong and China. I just don't understand how people can complain about the food. If you actually go into the restaurant you will see a lot of chinese people in there and trust me if you find chinese people in a chinese restaurant the food must be good!!! Just like if you go to an Italian, Spanish, Indian etc.
