I think Lido is probably the best dim sum restaurant in Chinatown. The food is served fast and hot unlike a few other restaurants where I have eaten (Harbour City and New World). Value for money is also very good compared to Golden Dragon or Plum Valley (very good food but pricey). Being able to speak cantonese I do find the waiters to be very friendly.

I am amazed by the comments seen here, I have been to this restuarurant Dozens of times over the last 20 years and I have always been warmly welcomed, very well fed and impeccably served, perhaps if you treat the staff with respect you get courteous service

I would NOT recommend this one to anybody.

Being European, I totally agree with the fact, that the waitress is rude as hell. She slammed the plates in front of us on the tables, brought the wrong food first without apologizing. Therefore I find the service ridiculous and would not recommend the restaurant to anybody. The value for money is as average as the food.

When you pay for your dinner (and don't do it at home) you should get more than just the food in a good place.

Never ever again.

I am Chinese and I think Lido serves the best dim sum in China Town.

Service: I must admit that I do agree with a lot of the comments below, that service is not the best in this restaurant. This restaurant is relative small in size, and hence one can understand why waiters will come to your table to ask "finished? finished?" every 2 minutes when you still blatantly have food on your plates because this is a rather traditional and normal way Chinese shop owners would act in order to get AS MANY CUSTOMERS (and hence money) in the door as possible.

Food: I've only been here for dim sum (i.e. lunch) but not dinner so I cannot comment on the dishes. Dim sums always come to your table within 5 minutes (ok, or 10, but wont be much longer), and the most important thing is that they ALWAYS COME HOT! there are restaurants in china town which has very varied quality of food. sometimes excellent sometimes freezing cold. and yet every time I've been to Lido, the food has always been very freshly cooked/steamed and very hot! More to that, their dim sum is probably the best that I've has in china town. They taste good, proper, and authentic.

Atmosphere: Nice and modern. Fairly spacious...

Value for money: Within the whole china town, dim sums in Lido are averagely priced (possibly leaning towards the more expensive end) but it's good for its value and quality of food.

All in all, if you were here for good service, probably a wrong pick. If you were here for food - definitely 5*!

I am not sure I agree with the pass reviews about the staff. I have been to this place over 10 times and I have never had a rude moment with any of the staff, in fact they are very accomondating.

The food always arrives hot and is good value for money given that it is on the main street, there are worse places in Soho.

The dim sum is ok. Nothing to wow about. Extremely rude waiters though. They're on a constant speech loop every few minutes, "Finish? Finish?". Well, if the waiters bother to use their eyes (and a little bit of their brains + manners) instead of just their mouths, they might find that there is still food on the table, so "No, I ain't finish yet".

Extremely uncomfortable experience.

I have to agree with alot of the other reviews in saying the waiters were the most unfriendly I have ever come across, it was actually quite uncomfortable.

They basically slammed our dishes down, barely acknowledged us and kept coming over and staring at our table every 5 minutes saying "Finished?, Finished?"

The food itself was ok, pretty average. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

The dim sum was good, but not brilliant. The service was, well bad. I don't expect a waitress to hug me, but eye-contact wouldn't go amiss. There's something disconcerting and insulting about a waitress not looking at you ( even though you're being courteous) - as if you don't exist.

One waitress took the no eye-contact thing so far that she missed the table when giving me the dim sum menu.

There wasn't an ounce of welcome or friendliness in the service until it was time to pay the bill and give a tip. Then a waiter skipped up to me and made jovial small talk and then asked if I'd like to add a tip in the same breath. I always tip 20%, but this time I told them that 10% service charge was already included, so no. Here's a tip to them. If you want a tip- try to give at least one smile and look at your patrons.

The food was served to quickly. Just finish one course and the next comes up immediately. No time to digest. The staff I found unfriendly. All they wanted was to serve you and get you out as soon as possible just to take the money. None of our party felt relaxed, even some of their own staff seemed on edge and scared if they did something wrong or were not quick enough.

The food was good was the only thing I can say about it.

This place is BRILLIANT. The dim-sum is authentic, fresh and absolutley delicious and there is a long list to choose from. The service was quick and the staff were friendly - they even cracked a few jokes which, as regular Wonkei's visitors, made us nearly fall off our chairs. The cost for three of us to stuff ourselves silly, whilst enjoying the sights and sounds of China Town from our table in the window, was a mere £19, which included a beer each! The tastiest and cheapest dim sum I've ever had in London, and in a great location.
