Mr Kong

We were a party of 15 from Nottingham on a works Christmas day out and had been recommended to try Mr Kong. Well we weren't disappointed, Edwin (the manager) and all the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Our tables were ready for us and the food was excellent. Great value for money. They also went out of their way to cater for the only vegetarian among us.

Food was excellent and the service superb. Very good Chinese food - we tried Mr. Kong after our favorite Chinatown restaurant E-Capital closed a couple of years back. This is a worthy replacement. Good authentic Chinese cookery. Also very welcoming to families with children.

Visited Mr Kong's last night, having read the reviews on this page. The food was generally good, although I have to agree with a previous reviewer regarding the soup; very slimy (and unlike anything I've had in Hong Kong). Also, the prawn toast actually came with Worcester Sauce! However, mains were very good and the meal was reasonably priced. In general, the staff were friendly and attentive, although one waiter seemed very grumpy, to the extent that other staff were avoiding him. The dining area is very plain and already looking a little tired in places.
In summary, good food at reasonable prices - but surely this can't be the best restaurant in Chinatown? I regularly used to visit another restaurant when I was in London with work, but couldn’t seem to find it this time; for the record, their food and service were superior.

Was very surprised to see such a negative review by T.Walker (below).
I regularly go to Mr Kong, and while the food is not the best in London, it is certainly the best I have eaten in China Town. It can get v.busy, but I have always had good fresh food (particularly seafood).
I suppose all restuarants can have an off day, but I have found Mr Kong consistently reliable.

Went to Mr Kong's on Saturday 18th Aug.My wife was sat next to a large stack of chairs, and because it was full we were unable to be re-seated elsewhere. We plumped for a set menu as we both liked what was on it.We started with crab and sweetcorn slime(soup). Then prawn toast and pancake roles which came with Worcestershire sauce ,not one of the better known inventions of the Chinese I must admit I thought it would have been soya sauce but they you go.The duck and pancakes was just ok apart from the duck was dry and the cucumber had been left out all day and was dry.The main course was Beef in Oyster sauce and Sweet and Sour Pork. The Beef was Rubbery (Not a Chinese joke it was Rubbery). The Pork had no taste and was rock hard and dry.The special rice was very special I would think the prawns in it were a few days old because their taste was so strong it was inedible. After complaining they graciously deducted the service charge which they charge whether you want to leave a tip or not. I do not recommend this restaurant and if I was able to leave a "No Star Rating" I would but I suppose the food was hot.DO NOT GO HERE.

Superb food, best around this area I have tried thats for sure.
The manager was brilliant with customers, however the other staffs skills left a lot to be desired. They were so miserable and when I ordered a bottle of wine, one of them when pouring some for me to taste, spilt some, no apology given. Come on!

Came here on Saturday with 3 freinds. The waiter was very friendly and advised us that we were perhaps ordering too much - he was right! The Soft shell crab starter was excellent. A good size, not greasy with a nice salty and spicy finish. The other starters ordered were bog standard but good. Mains were excellent. I have a rice dish that was half chicken and tomato and half king prawns & cream. Different and very tasty. The Emperor chicken on the bone was equally good. Very enjoyable evening.

Like 99% of your other reviewers, I had been waiting to go back to Mr Kong after it's rebuild. We had planned (a party of four) to visit a nearby restaurant (that is our normal favourite) for a meal - alas they were closed for two days because of ventilation problems. So we plumped for Mr Kong - I cannot list the superlatives to describe the experience! - it was so good, the food (so welcomly different from nearly all of the other restuarants in the Chinatown area) lovely smiling staff, a very nice wine selection and a busy but buzzing atmosphere. The bill was so reasonable that we could not believe it! I particularly remember the (at times) quite exotic seafood from the old place - we had it again. We will be going back as soon as possible - an old friend reborn!!

Worth waiting for - still the BEST in China town.
The food - delicious; Edwin, the manager - delightful; The staff - attentive.
Check it out if you haven't as yet...
