I went to Mr Kong for the first time based on the good reviews I have read and was pleased to have not been disappointed.
I went as a group of 12 for Chinese New Year and all the feedback I received were positive and complimentary.
The food was delicious and service was attentive. Edwin, the manager made sure we were well looked after.

Also very surprised by the negative reviews on here. I mostly use this restaurant for lunch as they have a quick turnaround and can deliver the goods without dropping the standard.
While I've never been keen on the decor, I come here for the fast but friendly service, good menu and great value for money.
It's just a short walk from Leicester Square station and well-placed to capture the pre-theatre and cinema crowd. Recommended.

Also very surprised to see the negative reviews. It is absolutely our favorite Chinese restaurant in London. The proprietor is very friendly and gives great recommendations on some of the more unusual dishes. The specials menu is the one to go for. I always start with the steamed scallops with glass noodles - just delicious!

I'm shocked to read the negative reviews here!
Every time I visit London, I make it a point to stop by Mr Kong's. I can honestly say that this is some of the best Chinese food I have eaten in all of my travels.

Disappointing. Slightly depressing and cold room. Service was OK and friendly. Food only average at its best. Dishes were mixed. A couple, like the deep fried squid were ok, but others were frankly not very nice and we ended up leaving a lot of the food. Starters felt like they had been micro-waved, but generally the food was not hot enough. Chicken Satay to be avoided, as with fillet steak dish.

Liked this place before especially because of special vegeterian mock meat menu - tried this in Hong Kong so good to see a place doing it in UK. However the service is shocking - every member of staff is rude. You kind of expect this in a Chinese place but not this bad. Thumping food on table. taking food away earl, no please or thanks. And yes the owner - was a nice guy but he too has caught the bad service bug. Directed all his chat to my one fellow diner who was drinking - the rest of us were invisible. Thinking twice about going back.

Visited Mr Kong this evening. Had been there a few years ago and had good memories. We had deep fried squid which was grey in colour and looked very unappertising.. and it was tough and luke warm. The singapore noodles were hard and similarly not warm. Crsipy Mongolian Lamb was ok ... but dry and also not warm. Service was prefunctory although when we complained about the squid they offered to prepare another dish or deduct from the bill. It all felt like the dishes had been prepared much earlier and simply microwaved from frozen ...

This is definately the BEST Chinese restaurant in London, no doubt about it whatsoever, food is excellent, Patrick the manager is a great guy, always smiling, always willing and eager to please but the food speaks for itself, 1st class.

Brilliant. If you're used to eating in 5-star luxury you really do get to appreciate that atmosphere, service, quality of food is what matters, where ever you then eat - but only when they come together. Mr Kong does it just right. OK, it's not a restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental - but when you've done them both, try and pick your favourite - it's really hard. We visited for the first time in early January after searching the web - I've now recommended it to at least 12 friends who are going to try it out - I've even gone as far as to say this is the best Chinese restaurant I've ever tried - including those in Hong Kong. Can't promise everyone will love it as we did - but the queue of 25 stood outside - thankfully we booked in advanced - were wide eyed with eagerness to sit down and eat. The only down side for me is that clearly there are loads of regulars who come here - you see them jumping the queue to try and get a table - and some did - oh well.

I like Mr Kong very much & frequent it on my own for simple dishes like Hot & Sour soup and noodles with roast duck.
Every time these have been perfect. They are totally delicious and in good portions. With a pot of steaming hot tea, I always end up spending less than a tenner.
I will definitely come back with a group and be more adventurous with the menu.
Service has always been efficient.
I would ignore Hamal's comments below. They are unconstructive.
