A really lovely chinese restaurant. We ate here on Friday 25th March, arriving half an hour early, they accomodated us. We chose the most expensive set meal at £23 a head, this was well worth the money, and the quality of food was excellent.Three points to illustrate; the crispy duck was served as only meat, no bones, which was a nice touch. Also the house red was approx £18 a bottle, and was good ! Thirdly ,the cauliflower in spiced (?tempura) is divine !!! Total bill for four with drinks , £132 !! And all agreed a great meal.C'mon, what more do you want !! Definitely on my return list.

Really excellent Chinese restaurant in Greek Street, just across Shaftesbury Avenue from Chinatown. In my opinion, much better! The service is always very polite too.

This place did not let me down. The two of us went for lunch. We shared the set menu and also some a la carte dishes to. Service was excellent and the food was great. Well worth a visit and the modest prices do not disappoint.

Went to Yming recently, and the standard of cooking is still as good as ever. One thing I've discovered that I really love here is the peking duck which needs to be pre-ordered at least 4 hours in advance. Definitely worth ordering, it beats all other styles of duck hands down.

In response to the reviewer who was based in HK for 5 years, the standard of Chinese cooking in Hong Kong and that of other asian countries such as Singapore and Taiwan is much higher than it is in the UK. Therefore, I can understand this persons viewpoint of chinese food in London. Perhaps the only restaurant of comparable standard can be seen from the dim sum served at Hakkasan. However, as UK standards of Chinese cuisine, Yming is still the one of best ones out of the bunch. To the point, that I am going there for dinner this weekend!

I was moved to write this review when, as I was looking up the YMing's telephone number to make a booking, I saw a poor review! Made me wonder what restaurant the complaintant had actually visited.
I eat out a lot -- probably too much. And eat mostly at really very good restaurants and at Michelin starred ones. YMing is one of the really good places to eat both for food and atmosphere.
Food is well cooked and presented - not greasy food as the other reviewer had alleged.
The last time I was there a few months ago I went with my 16 year old nephew who was visiting from rural Canada. The staff were great with him helping him out with the chop sticks and ensuring we ordered food that might challenge his taste buds but not put him off "real chinese" food.
Staff, atmosphere and food all top table!
Book early and go often would be my advice

Having lived in Hong Kong for 5 years and being a massive fan of regional Chinese cuisine, I was really excited about visiting this place after all the reviews below.
What a massive disappointment! It is just the same, greasy fare that is served up in every other Chinese establishment in the locality: oily strips of beef with red and green peppers and a sickly sauce; over-fried duck with spring onions; popcorn style squid. The biggest let-down were the Dan Dan noodles - they were an almost unrecognisable shadow of the vibrant, spicy dish that you get in China. When I asked the waitress as to why they didn't taste of anything she simply said that this was how people in the UK like them. Nor did they provide the insights into the menu that other people seem to claim were offered to them. Everything was a speciality, apparently.
As a lover of Chinese food I found this a thoroughly depressing experience, made worse by the fact that an average dinner for two with a 17 quid bottle of wine came to £73. It is no better or worse than the myriad of other awful places nearby, so do not get your hopes up like I did.

Yming has been our first stop in London since 1989; right from Heathrow to Greek Street is our pattern. London wouldn't be London without Christine, William and the great staff. During these twenty years we've sent hundreds of clients and friends to YMing and we've never heard anything bur rave reviews. Thanks to Christine for make every visit and culinary adventure; we've learned over the years to let the staff order for us.

Really friendly smallish restaurant. Food is very good but the Saturday we went, service was totally unco-ordinated. I was served my main meal a good 5 minutes after everyone else had been served. The excuse was that "every meal is cooked separately" but this was the early part of the evening before the main rush! Apart from that, it really is a lovely place to have a relaxing informal meal at a good price

Is it a bad thing to recieve a Christmas card every year for the last 14 years...from the staff at a restaurant? No,it's a nice thought...I can't believe I've never reviewed my favourite Chinese restaurant in London. I love this place...I guess I take it for granted but if you want an outstanding Chinese meal Yming is a must visit!
Last night we enjoyed their sea bass with a side of sugar snap peas and aspargus...with some steamed rice.It was a simple but an excellent meal.We enjoyed an excellent Swiss white wine...full bodied...rare to see this on any menu...let alone in a Chinese restuarant!
I also rate their silken tofu,Tibetan garlic lamb, aubgergine chips(pure bliss),fresh scallops...lamb with lemon zest....
The owner (Christine) is often in the restaurant and is always wonderful with her guest as is William(main waiter)...
Fantastic every single time!
