I and my friends have been there so many times because I prefer a nice and quick meal before go to theatres. The atmosphere is great and I do not really mind about the services as the price is cheap and reasonable itself. Also, all the staffs are so kind and friendly but do not expect them on weekend night as it will be crazy busy.

The three of us went to Soho Thai, we ordered just mains & drinks (we weren't hungry enough for starters - although they did try to push the starters a bit). After what appeared to be an enjoyable meal, we were given the bill. At the bottom of the bill it had the handwritten word gratuity with an additional 12.5% added to the bill as it if was compulsory. Which was odd as the couple sitting next to us (it is very crowded - so all the tables were very close to each other) had on their bill a red stamp stating "service is not included" and did not have the "gratuity" added to their bill unlike ours. We questioned the waiter why this was the case and whether the gratuity was compulsory, the waiter replied that they add a compulsory service charge for tables of three or more. We did not believe him as it sounded odd, so we asked to see the menu to check whether this was the case, on the menu it clearly states an optional service charge will be added. Once we have pointed this out to the waiter, he quickly grabbed our bill (perhaps to destroy the evidence) and replaced it with the version without the gratuity on it. Another waitress told us that 12.5% service charge is never compulsory in this restaurant. We were shocked with this behaviour in regard to the restaurant giving out different variations of restaurant bills and this practice is completely dishonest.
Overall, I would say the food is great, the toilets could be much better, but whether I would recommend this restaurant would probably be a no as the dishonestly aspect to the bill does ruin what would otherwise be an enjoyable meal.

Having dined there three times recently, I would say the mains are of high standard, the starters are not so good e.g. avoid the tasteless spring rolls. The service can be rude, last time we got asked to vacate our table. So be prepared to hold back your tips if they continue to treat customers like this.

I have been a returning customer to Soho Thai since 2000 (In fact I'm going again tomorrow). It is excellent value for money and the food is really good and as authentic as it can get considering that to be fully authentic ingredients would need to be flown in on a daily basis which I don't think one can expect and certainly not for the low prices you get there. If you want that kind of league you should go to The Blue Elephant in Fulham which does fly in deliveries daily, but there you are also looking at a completely different price range (the reason why I have not yet been myself)
I felt compelled writing this review after reading Dan Brown's review, and although he is entitled to his opinion I wonder if his opinion may have been formed because either he was unlucky on the night or perhaps he has never been to Thailand and doesn't know the authentic taste.
I have travelled Thailand a lot both as a tourist and as a guest with locals eating at local eateries and if that is not convincing enough, my friend from Thailand has approved Soho Thai being a person who can usually not eat in Thai restaurants in the UK because of the lack of authentic taste.
PS I am not trying to criticise Dan Brown's opinion in any way, but I wanted to let you all know that maybe it is worth giving the place a try and form your own opinion

I ate here at the beginning of the week, having been lured in by the excellent reviews. Well, having now eaten here, methinks I smell a rat.
The room is adequate, but the trip downstairs to the toilet a bit disconcerting: cigarettes all over the stairs, crammed gents and ladies toilets right on top of the kitchen. None of which would matter if the food was as good and authentic as I was hoping...
We ordered the mixed starters for two. The missus ate her Thai fishcake first. I hoped she was exaggerating when she said that her mouth now had a nasty, congealed fatty taste and thata the batter had stuck to her teeth and gums. She was dead right, though. The starters were okay. But they were 100% microwaved, very generic, and nothing to get excited about. The accompanying sauces were bland and over sweet (fresh satay or tangy sweet chili they were not)
Mains were good. The bill not that expensive.. £40s for starters, mains, 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine, which for Soho I concede is cheap.
If my review seems over harsh, it isn't meant to be. BUt if you read the other reviews first as I did, along the lines of - 'I've eaten Thai food all over the world and this is the best' then you will be disappointed.
A reasonablle 6.5 out of 10

My friends and I ate here on 1/3/07. Having all eaten Thai in Australia (where almost every second restaurant is Thai) we weren't really expecting it to be anywhere near as authentic. But it was fantastic and I'd even say better than any Thai meal I've ever had. We made three fabulous choices - the duck curry, pad Thai with prawns and the Penang pak and all were amazing. The bill was around £ 50.00 for 2 shared starters, three mains, two rices and a bottle of wine. We would all definitely eat here again. In fact we're already talking about going back soon.

Tucked away just off Wardour St, this Thai restaurant is good little find. We arrived at around 8:30 and the place was packed, but we only had to wait a few minutes before the two of us were seated. However, it looks like booking might be a good idea if you have a larger group.
The menu offered a simple selection of standard thai dishes with several veggie and fish options. Our food arrived quickly with ample portions. As soon as we had finished our meal, the bill turned up without prompting - the staff were obviously keen on turning tables round quickly. This wasn't really done impolitely or in an intrusive way, but this clearly isn't the place to linger after your meal.
Overall, I'd say this place is great value for money (came to around £20+tip for two mains and soft drinks!) and would certainly recommend it. Also, according to the other people who were waiting for a table, the food here is much better than the ever popular Busaba Eathai round the corner which always has ridiculous queues.

The food at Soho Thai was gorgeous! I could have quite easily ordered another portion of Drunken Duck...and the Mussaman lamb curry was also lovely. This is one of the best thai restaurants I have been to. The service was quick and polite (apart from the very end where the waitress counted the money in front of us) and the atmosphere was relaxed. The only thing I would change would be separate smoking and non-smoking areas (or non-smotking throughout!) but I would definately recommend it.

The restaurant started well, nice decor, great aroma. The staff were friendly and helpful however after ordering just 2 mains and rice we had to wait 45 minutes before our food turned up. Not impressed to say the least. I was astonished when our "tofu pad thai" turned up without any noodles. Upon enquiring I was told "no, pad thai has noodles, tofu pad thai does not." They took thailand's most famous noodle dish and removed the noodles. Fair enough, should have read the menu more closely. Would have been ok with rice except it was nothing more than a sickly sweet plate of deep fried tofu with some bean sprouts. Tasted exactly like honey chicken from a cheap chinese takeaway. The Pad Khing we had with it was a lot better but very average by any other standard. All in all, very unimpressed and would not eat here ever again.
