Chez Gerard (Chancery Lane)

Chez Gerrard in Chancery Lane is incredibly good. The staff are polite, efficient (and very good looking!). The food is well prepared and fresh and the upstairs section, with its comfortable booths is very cosy.
We had lunch there. I had the terrine to start which was meaty yet light enough not to spoil my appetite. I followed this up with the mixed grill. The steak was small (as you'd expect) but perfectly cooked. It includes a huge bowl of fries as well as a sausage, a lamb chop and a chicken breast, all perfectly griddled.
The pudding was a revalation. It was a bit like an "Eton Mess" but made from a selection of sorbets, crushed merrengues, and ice cream - very refreshing.
All in all, this branch of Chez Gerrard is excellent value. I have eaten at all the best restaurants in London and whilst its not in Michelin-star territory (and to be fair it doesn't try to be) it good, solid french cooking, well executed and thouroughly enjoyable.

I ate at Chez Gerard yesterday with 3 friends on the Times offer 2 courses + a glass of wine for £10. This is the second year in a row that use these vouchers in Chez Gerard and we've alwaus thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
The set menu is really good: I had the goat's cheese salad followed by the salmon and chips and it was delicious. Having used the Times voucher in other restaurants in the past, I can say that contrary to other restaurants, Chez Gerard gave us good portions, which we thought was realy classy on their part. Furthermore, the service was very good.
We ended up paying more than £10 each, as there is a £1.50/person service charge + 12.5% service charge included and we got a bottle of wine and coffees. But at the end of the day, we had a very nice meal, very nice wine and a great evening so it was definitely worth it!

I ate in Chez Gerard yesterday for lunch. Very busy but the staff and manager were all friendly and helpful. Steak was lovely well cooked and full of flavour. It was £65 for lunch for 2 of us which i thought was reasonable for the quality of food
