Had the prix fixe menu. Desperate. Bland food served cold. Truly awful. Service was willing but inept. What a shame as this used to be a good reliable choice in this area. Might as well be closed. To be avoided.

My partner and I have just had a fantastic evening at Chez Gerard. The food was perfect and plentiful. The service was also commendable with our waiter making us feel like we were the only customers in the restaurant, he also took time to recommend wine to go with each dish (which was spot on) and when a small error on the bill came to light it was dealt with professionally and without fuss.

As we were late dining, when the time for dessert came round the chef had finished, so our waiter even went to the trouble of preparing it himself (a 3* creme brullee and cheese board. Highly recommend.

Went there as part of a group outing of about 40 people to a private dining area.

We had a very simple no choice steak and chips dinner. Disappointed that they seemed completely overwhelmed by this and even taking into account that people mostly asked for medium, the delivery was piecemeal over the group. This meant that the last person to be served was well after the first person had finished. Service/delivery was painfully slow, and food was luke-warm when arrived, and steak was tough even by French standards.

Disappointing, and quite frankly, I would not now use this as a personal choice of venue.

This is one branch of the chain I'm always happy to revisit. It somehow has the feel of a more expensive place unlike, for example, the rather downmarket and now closed Rupert Street branch. Last week's visit did not change my high opinion.

This is not a place for the food snob or ultimate connoisseur of fine dining, but provides straightforward good quality food at reasonable (by central London standard) prices.

saturday evening. the restaurant not too busy.the waiters very kind and polite.

the food tasty. i have enjoyed my starter-foie gras terrine and main -panche de poission ,kind of sea food soup. my boyfriend had 2 courses for 17 pounds, which were sorrel soup and piece of chicken in mushroom sauce. but when we saw the bill there was 4 pounds more on it. it is called cover charge, what was olives already on each table and bread and butter, which the waiter brought whithout asking us before we order anything. should they charge for things we did not want to? it is not fair...
