Ciro's Pizza Pomodoro

I hope that this review will be taken seriously and with more consideration and professionalism than the service we just received in the Ciro's Pizza Pomodoro restaurant at Bishopsgate !

I have been there a few times and always enjoyed it but I never had such a bad service as today! First when we arrived and wanted to sit upstairs the manager Raymond told the young waiter upstairs to make sure that the people at the other table were comfortable but the people in question were not even there! I thought this was actually quite rude; we are customers in his restaurant and he should be serving us, be polite and welcome us! Then once the other arrived (they did not arrive in hour and a half we were there) he could look after them!

We then ordered our food and it arrived but one of my colleague’s dishes was not the one she ordered then when we asked what happened with her order it appears that she ordered something from last week’s specials which we obviously did not know! Raymond (the manager apparently) then comes upstairs again and starts screaming at his colleague saying the special menu we ordered from was the one from last week which again I thought was totally inappropriate! What ever mistake has been done; we as customers should not hear about it! We are here to enjoy a nice meal well we were there to enjoy a nice which ended up in a very very bad experience!

My colleague then asked the waiter if it would be long for her to get her dish and he said no – 25mns later still no pasta, the 3 of us have finished our food so myself and one of my colleague decide to go down to speak to Raymond as he has not been upstairs once to tell us what is going on or to apologize. As we arrive downstairs he puts her pasta in the lift to go upstairs and does not even look at us although he knew who we were! I finally ask him if I could talk him and if he was going to do anything about what was happening to which he replies has he no time for us! Please what kind of manager says that? He is a manager in a restaurant I am the customer and he speaks to me like this? As we were still speaking to him he turned his back and walked upstairs to see what’s going on and he starts screaming at us saying that it was not his fault – I don’t care whose fault it is, you do not say that to your customer! He carries on saying that I would not tell him how to do his job and so on! I am in the service industry and I would never ever dare speak like this to any of my customers!

I told him there was no way we were going to pay for the food and he said we’d better pay for it – I repeated we would not pay at all! But he said we had to pay the one bottle of wine we had! Which we did but now thinking back I should have told the poor waiter to keep the £20 and he could have told Raymond that we left without paying as I am now sure that this poor guy’s job is in trouble!

Please note that I have never gone so far in complaining but we ended up leaving the restaurant with not event an apology from the manager, let me tell you that my food is not going down very well!

Looked forward to coming here for some time. Great Moorish interior - used to be a Turkish bathhouse- same cannot be said for the food

The starters came out (too) quickly; the Calamari seemed dry plus it was drowning in a sauce tasting like something you would find in a fillet o fish.

Then the Pizzas came- frankly we were both taken aback as to how small they were. Are these the same size as the other branches? ..the smallest pizzas I have ever been served(and nearly 10 quid each). And neither thin crust or thick, just oily, no better than a delivery pizza. Service was ok but the bill was not, over 50 quid. Poor.

I like this place. I come here every month or so with the same friends. We always drink way too much wine.

Great place to eat at, it's fun and lively after 8!

the pizza is great, the service can be fast or slow depending on how busy they are.

if you have time to eat here i would recommend it... (american hot pizza is a fav!)

What a super place! In the evening with the live music and atmosphere we had a great night. In fact we go there frequently. The staff are just super friendly. Once you are there and settled at your table your made welcome and can stay until they close. On a Friday night the singer is fantastic and gets everyone dancing. The food for the price is typical Italian, I always go for the pastas or specials. My daughter wanted to have her 18th birthday party there, the family (12 of us) had a great night. For parties of 6 or more there isnot a better place in the City to enjoy yourself at Ciro's. Please go there its different and most important.....fun.

Went along to Ciro's for a business lunch one weekday. In retrospect it was possibly not the right setting, I would say it's more suited to an informal meal out with friends, but the service was good and it filled up really quick which, when considering it's quite tucked away, is obviously a good sign.

The walls are covered in photos of the proprieter with various celebrities and each dish was presumably eaten by someone famous in one of their international restaurants as the description says 'Paul Young's favourite' or something to that effect.

Nice place for a bite to eat in a really different setting - underground in what apparently is an old Turkish bathhouse, although probably wouldn't recommend it for a business lunch as they fairly squeeze you in on the tables!!
