Food: Good Lebanese cuisine. Nothing great. Starters were lovely, main course was a little lack lustre. Lamb was cooked well but not well presented, and served with chips (?!?)

Service: APPAULLING! The waiter was very moody. He asked us if we wanted to order main course as we were eating our starters. During service, he practically through the cutlery on the table, and took food away without even asking if we had finished (which we hadn't).

Would not return or recommend. Many better Lebanese restaurants available for food, ambience and service.

This is the ONLY case at this website where the ratings are in total disagreement with my opinion. We dine out often, and Al Sultan is our very favorite restaurant. The staff go out of their way to make us feel at home. The white tablecloths, Arab music and international clientele make for exotic ambience. And the food is first rate. We go to many Lebanese restaurants -- from upscale and very good Fahredine to ethnic Edgware Road -- and Al Sultan's food is at the top of our list. It serves late and you can always get a table, even on Saturday night. I strongly recommend you give Al Sultan a try and expect a pleasant experience.

A total disappointment. The food was poor, vastly overpriced and extremely average; in fact it was not as good as any local middle- eastern restaurant further out of town. Totally lacking in atmosphere and rather dull decor. Service was erratic and disinterested. I had requested a quiet table, in a non-smoking area; I was told they didn't have one, but would put us away from any smokers.

We were given a table between a group of cigar smoking businessmen and another that was occupied by a large family group with noisy kids. There were plenty of other tables that were available during the time we were there, but as I was with two clients, I did not want to draw further attention to the situation, but hoped the food would live up to the reviews. It didn't. We had to ask for additional potatoes and vegetables, and were given a small bowl of chips, (oven-like) and some peas and chopped carrots, probably from a tin. We were glad to leave. There are much better places serving this sort of food better, cheaper and within a very short walk. A bad experience!

The other reviews are right: go for a mix of starters and forget the main course; yes, it's sadly empty and the decor is all a bit vieux jeu (overstuffed chairs and lots of starch in table linen). BUT THIS IS JUST THE MOST EXCELLENT LEBANESE FOOD YOU ARE GOING TO FIND IN LONDON. After you have eaten at Al Sultan, you will never go to Edgware Road again (except for the belly dancers). The perfection of ordinary things, the foul and the hoummous, even the puffed bread (what is Arabic for puri?), the nice lushness of the plate of green peppers, tomatoes, spring onions etc that arrives at the start .... and that is just the opening point onto stylish, classic just-done-right range of options for mix of hot and cold to make endless range of possible 'mezzes'. Equally happy for vegetarians or carnivores. My favourite time is the late lunch mode -- which could go on indefinitely. (And it doesn't seem so bad that you are the only ones there.) The wine is a bit expensive but the Fleurie (ca £26 a bottle) is excellent, as are the Lebanese wines.

i went there after reading the reviews and i was so disapointed. i can't understand how this place could ever be someone's favourite lebanese in London. i would never suggest to anyone this place. you can probably get this quality of food in other places for less than half the money.
