Booked for evening Christmas meal as menu on website looked great and dining area looked very comfortable. The reality when we arrived was very different. Very large outdoor covered smoking area, tatty paintwork, essentially a bar. The dining area upstairs was very small and just one table (the one we had reserved) was set out for dinner. We just couldn't imagine how the kitchen could deliver any decent standard of food, for just four people, from an extensive menu. The atmosphere was of a fairly noisy bar, not a classy restaurant. We made our apologies and left without eating.

I just had a business lunch here. Virgin Mary so caustic with worcester sauce that I couldn't drink it. Absolutely terrible food. A starter of shredded cold duck pancake arrived with an inside of tiny amounts of duck and grated carrot and sweet sauce all wrapped in a stodgy wheatflour pancake. Ghastly. Worse was to follow. Teriyaki tuna steak arrived atop small mounds of rice surrounded by a sea of sickly teriyaki sauce. Had to send it back. The fish itself was well cooked but it didn't stand a chance. I could not eat it without drowning it in the sauce. So inedible I had to send it back. The same piece of fish was re-served on a dry plate with the teriyaki sauce poured into a small bowl.

Waiting staff were drowning in their own way. When asked what to explain the ingredient 'mirin', no-one knew, not even when they went into the kitchen to ask. Oh dear....

This is probably the best place to eat and drink in canary wharf. Nowhere else really has any charm or character, and the outside space here provides good shelter in all weather. Simple tasteful interior decoration, good food, and one of the best wine lists i have seen. Service was friendly
