I love the George and Vulture, I often come here with clients - only my best ones though. I find it great value for money - i am naturally a bit cheap you see - but don't tell my clients

I take exception to the previous review on this site. In my view The George and Vulture is unique in the City. The food is what one would expect from a chop house. It is good english fayre. Those who wait on the punters are, intentionally, putting on a london accent to make the visit seem original. We are here talking about a restaurant that features in Pickwick papers. Here is history that you cannot find elsewhere. This is my number one restaurant in the City.

A 45 minute wait for a very mediocre meal, overcharged at the end and VERY RUDE staff. We definitely won't be going back or recommending it to any of our City clients.

As an old chop house this place is outstanding, simple English food and a slightly plusher decor than Simpsons nearby. It's not a smart restaurant so reviewing it as such is unfair.
I ate there most recently last month and had a great meal. The steak and kidney pie was delicious. Good Sam Smith's stout too.

Another bad review for the George and Vulture I'm afraid.
I ate here as part of a group, wnd they frankly seemed unable to cope.
We were crammed in with so many people on a table it was hard to move even enough to use a knife and fork. Fish was dull to say the least - and the waiting staff ddn't feel they could manage an order of vegetables - so we had to take what we were given. Weirdest fried onions with crispy burnt bits of batter and chips like the last ones out of the frier in a poor chip shop. Desert was a dry, thick crusted apple pie - which should have cost £1 in a greasy spoon.
Lovely building - but the worst experience I've had in the City for years. And with the wine and stewed filter coffee it cost £45 a head.
I can honestly say I will never go there again.
