I must agree with those who have said the food was c***. I must say went there today and it was a total disaster. We were given drinks that we didnt order, the service was crop and i find the waiters quite rude and full of it. The food was cold went it came to us eventually and it was horrible. Going to lotus was like going to a very horrid take away shop ( even though the take away shop would have been netter. I would not go there again if my life depend on it. Its a waste of money.

absolutely horrid... one of my worst eating experiences.....the portions were ok.... food mediocre..... the bill was wrong we ordered 3 starters and got billed for 5 .... the staff were rude ( they really need to do something about the staff in this place )and the only time the waitress started to be polite was when she bought the bill to ensure a decent tip. Best of all the table next to us had 15 guys for some christmas dinner etc and they had a fight with the manager as they were overcharged too....We wont be going back and would recommend that others stay well away too.

I completely disagree. We had a great meal, it was hot, very tasty and nicely presented. After we ate there was music to bop along to and what is wrong with bottled beer, you can always drink wine. Ok the boat has seen better days and i would not recommend it for grannies 90th birthday bash but for a works christmas do, go for it!!

Christmas is here!!!!

- And the floating boat would be the biggest waste of money you could spend on food this time of year!!!

Here are the stats:

40 People invited - only 35 chairs were provided at the beginning, after a fuss we got an extra table which looked like it had been pulled fresh from the dock. Seating was tight - my elbows felt like they were in a few rounds with Bruno!!!

Starters - Seemed like it was minced up chicken nuggets (would of been better going to KFC!)

Main courses - Everything was really fatty, duck seemed like it was a lump of lard (thought it was ment to be aromatic and crispy?) and the pork tasted like something i would feed my dog...

Ok - now i felt a bit sick, so off to the toilets i go, well what a mess - graff all of the walls, urine on the floor and wash basins that wouldn't clean anything apart from the plague that you caught off the toilet seats haha!!! Well best part is to come. As i was exiting the loos i see another door that look like a storage cupboard - OMG!!! my food is being kept in basically a puddle of Pi$$!!!! YUCK!!!

Well after this, i noticed that their fishes (poor fellows) looked like they had seen better days and would live a better life swimming around the Thames...

If you want my honest opinion, its just a boat with lots of chinese people on it, probably run by some russian gangsters or something?.?... Not an authentic chinese restaurant, they don't even sell pints!! as quoted by a member of staff "just bottle beer here"... arrrgghhhh!!

If you want a decent Chinese with something a little different, DON'T try the "floating Lotus retaurant" i suggest a nicer place in Manor park i can't mention any names but its on the high street of E12... lovely place, good service and yes they do sell pints there!...

Food - Surely not classed as chinese, tasteless and fatty

Service - Poor, staff look like they need a break

Atmosphere - Nothing like a boat, crowded, tight and COLD!!!

Value - Not very cost effective, for the service i would want them to pay me!!!

Thanks for reading, hope you don't have a similar experience.....

Went to Floating Lotus with friends on the recommendation of a few websites. We were very disappointed. The service was friendly but rushed. The food was very poor. The chefs h'ors doeuvres were overpriced and the chicken skewers were so dry and rubbery that they were inedible. The main courses were also poor. Two people ordered duck. There was very little duck on the plate - mainly fat. The chicken dish was dry and chewy. Overall, extremely disappointing.

The food is quite nice considering London does not have that much good Chinese restaurants. But I do not really like some of the waitresses there, who like to show their stone faces as if I am not going to pay. And particularly there is one waitress who is very impatient when waiting for me to order the food and ask for recommendations. I could't take this as it was not in a condition where people were queueing for seats.

Ate at this restaurant last week with a mixed european party. We all agreed that the food was excellent. We were served several 'special' dishes not on the menu that the chef was 'trying out' and of course we were not charged for these. The best dish has to be the lamb in plum sauce! Service was good and all the staff were very helpful. Not overly expensive either compared to some mediocre chinese restaurants in the west end. Would definately eat there again. yi

I visited with co-workers. Our service was good. We were seated right away and they were happy to oblige us when we said we needed to wait for another member of our party to attend; the staff was willing to oblige.

The food was a let down. For a restaurant that confesses to be authentic, it tasted super bland and full of cheap fillers. (How much rice, sugar and water can you put in a dish to fatten it up?)

I also feel the whole "floating" idea is over rated. it didn't feel like we were on a boat, more like surrounded by a moat.

I'm from San Francisco and am still missing the taste of real Chinese; my co-workers were visiting from the Orient, and said "compared with other British Chinese, this is good - compared to real Chinese - not a chance."

Confused about some of the earlir reviews - service was excellent and everyone eager to help! Henry especially was very helpful for our novice party and provided an excellent series of dishes from the menu. I would recommend to all!
