We went here for my Mums 50th Birthday on Saturday. Wow !! The Food was amazing. The staff were all very nice and helpful. We requested a window table up stairs with a view and that's what we got. We had duck and the usual, Bailey all round + other drinks and it came to £100, £25 per head - Very reasonable. Totally enjoyed it and will be going back.

My husband and I went there on cold night in december. The food was disappointing to say the least. The sauce on the sweet and sour prawns tasted like it was straight out of a bottle.. too sweet the squid was ok and the portions on the starter soup were tiny. The waitress put us next to a roudy table and said ( rather rudely ) that was the only place we could get. the only time she smiled was when the bill was being handled for the tip.

All in all a real disappointment and we wont be going back.

Had dinner at The Lotus with a group of about 20 people... The service was great but the food was very mediocre... Not much taste to it and was quite fed up after the first course... The others had similar feelings... Plus we couldnt get one table, we wew seated on 2 separate tables, which wasnt much fun. We were also seated next to the kitchen, therefore there was alot of traffic around the area but on the other hand, we received good service to both tables... The food was also quite cold and we had to wait a while before getting the food. wasnt very happy about that... The bar tender also had no knowledge whatsoever about wines... So we didnt have a great time...

On the other hand, the location of the restaurant is great.

We (2 of us) went there without a booking on a Friday night at around 8:15. They told us to come back at 9pm. So we went for a drink at Puzzle pub - very entertaining as they had kareoke!! Went back to the lotus at 9pm ... but the guy we spoke to said we had to wait 15 mins! So we waited there. We got a free drink for waiting which was nice of them to offer. Once we got the table, the service was very quick, it was excellent service. The price was reasonable too with big portons.... also a nice view of canary wharf on the way there.

Went with friends at lunch time, one of which was someone with slight learning difficulties. The waiters were very good. We had the lunchtime buffet which was very nice. Probably not top notch but adequate. Good for the price. No complaints! In fact the waiter we had went out of his way to make our friend's birthday nice and was very attentive. A very pleasant time. We had complimentary things as well included.

We were invited to this resturant by friends last week end, I had heard alot about this resturant over the years but I have never been. I had a quick look at some of the reviews here and was a little worried about spending my money in a place where the staff are ment to be really rude and the food sub standard but we went and it was ok.

We arrived at 9pm and were seated upstairs by the window , we were attended to straight away and we ordered our drinks and starters.

The drinks came over straigh away and we waited about 15 min for the starters, well should I say Starter becuase out of 4 of us only 1 turned up, so the other 3 were left sitting for another 15 min till they arrived.

The mail meal came up about 30 min later it was nice, not the best meal I have had but it was ok, The chow main was very dry and not really like what you get in other places the roast pork shreaded through it was so tastless.

They were very very busy on the night and the venue resembled one big office party as opposed to a nice cosy resturant . The place was buzzing , very bright and full of loud youngsters celebrating birthdays and engagements.

All in all I had a good night because of the company I was with but I dont think I would return to this resturant again there are far better chinise resturants around and I would not recommend this one to anyone of my friends.

On a final note if you sit by the window bring a shawl or wrap as it was soooooo cold!

After reading some of the previous reviews I was a bit worried about visiting the Lotus, but I decided I should make my own judgement this weekend.

My verdict?..A decision well made! My party of four had a brilliant time. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, after making our order we had to wait all of 5 minutes for our starters and the main meal followed in quick succession after that! I do need to add that the speed of the service was not for the fact they were rushing us; we were there for approx. 2 hours-it was just very good service and the food could not be faulted.

I will definitely be returning soon.

Beware! I have been to this restaurant a couple of times. I am not going there to expect the best service of all, however I have never been treated this way ever before! Fen the waitress took offence as we asked her to cancel a savoury dim sum after they had already served us the sweet ones. She obviously did not like the idea and refused. We then asked them a detailed receipt as the bill was only one line with one total. She then took all the checks and threw them on the table at my friend to tell him he could do it himself! I then told her I had never been treated this way before. She went to complaint to the owner who came straight to the table saying "What s your problem?!" with a face ready to explode. He threatened one of my friends asking them if they wanted to "stir this up"! He told me he did not care about the service in other restaurants as this was Lotus"! We paid and left. I could not help telling him very calmly that it was a shame to treat customers this way as the owner. I was then treated of Scum Bag in front of the whole restaurant, not only once but twice! Never this gentleman should be allowed to operate a restaurant!
