Had a delicious meal here, one of the best meals I have had in London. Had a lovely steak with dauphinoise beetroot and a pecan pie yum yum. It's a lovely candlelit atmosphere in the crypt of the church and very reasonable prices for the city as well, will definitely be going back!

We had a most excellent Valentine's Day dinner at Cafe Below last night. Fantastic food, my wife had a vegan special, Moroccan Stew which was really tasty and fresh, I had the venison with an imaginative beetroot dauphinoise, we both loved the roasted red pepper soup to start. And the Valentine's Day set menu was probably half the price of what I usually spend! Friendly and professional staff, great space in the crypt to eat. We came from North London wanting to try somewhere new from our usual list of Valentine's Day favourites and although our sat nav had problems finding the restaurant, we will definitely try and return to try the menu on a regular evening.

Went to the Cafe Below on Thursday evening and had a wonderful time. It is a cosy and charming venue, staffed by attentive, helpful and friendly staff.
A mixed plate of vegetarian tapas started off the evening - a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds! I then had an aubergine, chickpea and spinach stew which was absolutely fabulous. Others in the party had coq-au-vin ("perfect") and sea bream ("utterly delicious"). The most gorgeous warm chocolate brownies and clotted cream completed the meal. Total decadence but divine!
The menu is varied, with something to suit everyone . I am a vegetarian and had several options but others in the party are definite carnivores, and all of us found it difficult to select only one thing to eat! The wine menu isn't massive, but a good choice of red, white and rose as well as beers and ciders.
This is certainly somewhere I will visit again and would recommend it with enthusiasm.

This restaurant is now a sad shadow of its former self. What used to be the excellent vegetarian Place Below and something of an oasis in the City has been reincarnated with naff new signage as Cafe Below, complete with a cliched menu of predictable stuff including meat and fish. I am not a vegetarian and am happy to eat animals whether furry, finny or feathered, but you can do that in so many other places in the City and much better than here. The previously light dishes have sagged and put on weight, while the once fragrant salads have been replaced with heavy cuttings of the dreaded Iceberg. It's a shame that somewhere which had an exceptional vegetarian menu and a distinct identity is now offering basically wine bar stuff which you can buy in many other places, offered here in a distinctly cheesy ambience redolent of cream cheese not Stilton.
