Just wanted to thank staff and manager of potemkin restaurant for excellent service in making our Christmas staff party so memorable. And I am not just talking about the welcome vodka shots on t

he house. never eaten such delicious food in a long time. i last came in April 2005 and quite frankly i was not disappointed. despite the pressures of Xmas, the staff looked pretty relaxed for a demanding party of 40. keep up the good work and i am definitely booking valentines. cheers.

Apparently the place is under new management since I was last here and it shows. The wine list is not as sharp, and the ingredients seem to be of lower quality. I recognised the head waitress who was lovely to us all evening and made up for the other shortcomings. I hope that the problems are temporary and that this great restaurant will get back to its high standards. A friendly place, with good tasting food, and an amazing vodka list. Please please new owners read this and get back to what the place was good at.

Saturday 29th July 2006.

Table for two at Potemkin, with one drink in the bar before dinner was thoroughly enjoyed - albeit a touch overpriced at 95 pounds.

The staff both in the bar and restaurant were very pleasant and service friendly and professional. The food was excellent- Borscht- tasty, lamb casserole decent meat and nicely seasoned and cooked- highly reccomended (if you can accept paying 15 pounds for a smallish crock of stew). The sturgeon was acceptable. Desserts were satisfyingly tasty- illy liquer coffee- pleasant enough liquer but the coffee is far from quality, and a chocolate mousse dessert that was very good.

The georgian wine at 25 pounds a bottle is well overpriced even though it is a pleasant drinking wine. (The bottle normally sells for much less. In summary the staff make for a pleasant eating experience in quiet and relaxed surroundings, the food is excellent but overpriced, and the wine acceptable but also overpriced. Improvement to the coffee would be a start to put the small detail right.- Thanks though: an enoyable meal, and we are likely to return.

Loved this restaurant the food was delicious with flavours rarely combined in the UK. Service was good and explanations of dishes made ordering confident. £30.00 per head with 1 glass of house white each may be a little steep but didn't ruin my enjoyment.

Potemkin is truly a gem waiting to be discovered. The food is absolutely fabulous and you don't leave empty handed either. I was well surprised when the manager handed me a gift. Not many places where you get gifts. I will definitely arrange another party at the Potemkin. Keep it up.

It's worth noting that a confirmation by the LondonEating booking online form may not be upheld by this restaurant, even though a confirmation email is sent. One 21st birthday party needed rapid reorganization as a result of this lack of accountability.

My Russian girlfriend suggested a dinner treat last Friday at the Potemkin Restaurant. I had heard of it but had never been there before. I have never eaten Russian food so I totally relied on her (she is Russian you see). First she suggested borsch which she described as traditionally Russian. This soup came with what looked like mayo but she called it another name which I cant remember. At first sceptical but i tucked in, i was well surprised how savoury it tasted. You must try it if you ever go to a Russian Restaurant. For the main course my girlfriend suggested pelmeni which is rather like ravioli but only tastes ten times better. For dessert, I chose one of a selection of sweet sipping vodkas. I have never been to an eatery with such a large collection of vodkas. I paid £68.50 for the meal and felt it was money well spent. I found the waiting staff very attentive and the background music was excellent. I am now planning to book the whole restaurant for my birthday bash coming up in May. I am converted.

We were part of a group that went to this restaurant and, to be honest, I feel that it is very overpriced for what it is.

The decor is very un-Russian and more urban chic - very clean and downstairs is very stylish (as are the bathrooms) so I suppose this makes a change to the kitsch that you would normally expect in a place that served food from a specific region/country.

Service was ok - no bad comments but then nothing to praise either. The only thing was with the water - a) you are charged for it and quite steeply and b) they will try to give you a full bottle (nearly 4 pounds) when you ask for a glass - they tried it with me at the ordering stage but I pulled them up on it but not so lucky some of the others.

Food - I found this to be very very overpriced for what you got. I had the pork entree (each slice worked out to be approximately 1 pound!) and the main was a lamb casserole - initially I thought it was tender as it fell apart and good meat, however, it had clearly been boiled to within an inch of its life and beyond and was very sinewy with a lot of fat and an altogether unacceptable amount of veins and other 'tubes' running through the meat. I counted about one potatote that had been sliced, approximately 8 carrots (sliced) and the stew itself - for £15, this was not acceptable.

I left hungry and would not recommend it for the prices that are charged.
