This place looks fantastic and the vibes when you go in are great. I didn't find the food or the service that brilliant and at the end of it wished I'd gone somewhere else.

My friend had a sardine starter with the sardine 'well cooked' almost crispy. It was a micro helping but well presented.

The main courses of duck and lamb we found to be fairly bland.

My wife and I have been going to the Archduke restaurant for many years, normally after LPO concerts at the Royal Festival Hall or Queen Elizabeth Hall. Even when it has been very full, at 10.00 pm on a Friday night, we have never had a disappointing meal. The food is good and always hot, the wine list interesting with a good price range, and the staff always cheery and courteous - in fact, we look upon them as friends.

We frequently recommend the Archduke - and will continue to do so.

We've been here often over the years after concerts, sometimes to the restaurant and more often the downstairs area. Generally it's been pretty good. But last night the food was appalling. We had a tagine and a rib-eye steak sandwich. The tagine was luke-warm and boring - maybe 50p of ingredients for 8 quid. The steak sandwich lacked its onion relish, was merely warm and tasted vaguely of disinfectant. So they've really blown it for us. That was our last meal there.

We went and ate on a Saturday night after a show at 10pm. Place was full, and jazz dua played downstairs. Very nice. The staff all spoke english, which was a bonus, and even better, the majority were English! We hey! No rude Eastern European gruffness. They smiled, were chatty, and very good. The food was also excllent. I had the combo of 3 sausges and mash, and my date had a spinach and ricotta cheese pie. All came out promptly, bread was offered throughout, and looking around us, everybody else seemed to have a similar experience. We were out for our train by 11.20pm, topping of a good show. Based on our experience, I would definitely go back again, and highly recommend this place. On Waterloo's doorstep, so you might do what we did. See teh show, walk back safely across the bridge whilst its still early, stop by for a meal, and then know you have a 200m walk into the station. Top night.
