We had a table outside this week and it was soooo lovely. The food was generous, delicious and not at all contrived like so many of these stuffy city restaurants.

Steve's review of 27 March 2006 has hit the nail on the head, although I would add Faulty Towers style service to its list of woes. I was on expenses so it wasn't a big deal, but I'd have been seriously unhappy if it was my own hard-earned I was paying for this experience. My advice would be to go elsewhere.

I think Taberna Etrusca is a little slice of Italy from 40-50 years ago. I have been at lunch times when it is busy but it adds to the atmosphere. I think that this small Trattoria would have it no other way, especially when it comes to their regulars. The food tastes like mumma would make and having the chef and the managers speaking Italian around you does make you feel like you've stepped into Italy. Lovely!

Just come back from a lunch at Taberna Etrusca. The restaurant is very Italian and certainly very busy for lunch.

The welcome and service to start was excellent although quickly deteriorated to total indifference after our main meal was served - I think the restaurant staff were too overwhelmed and we got the brunt of it.

Food was nice, although limited for vegetarians, and menus were not labelled as such. A key drawback (after than poor service) was the cost.

I am now a regular at Taberna. I love the atmosphere in this little city restaurant. You can loose yourself and forget at times you are in the heart of the city. The food is always cooked with passion and always tastes great. You can really sense a feeling of family. I will certainly conyinue to return. Thanks again!

Good reliable spot, airy feel with a nice buzz and a varied menu at fairly typical City prices - average £6-£9 a starter, £12-£15 main plus sides. Wine list is good and accessible from around £15. House wine is about £13, from memory. They aren't good with fish - usually overcooked, but excellent with pasta, meats, risottos, salads, etc. Nice little alfresco situation down the side alley on hot days. Good restaurant layout, good attitude. As a non-smoker, I've never noticed the smoky atmosphere another reviewer complains about. You would normally get out around £90 for 2 with 3 courses, a bottle of wine, coffee, etc. , but could eat and drink well for £60 for 2 if you take the right options. Not cheap, but London, and the City in particular, ain't cheap full-stop.

This is one of the the most authentic italian's in the City, with some good wholesome basics well prepared and presented.

If you like average, bland, and over-priced food served in a smoky atmosphere alongside indifferent service, then this is the place for you.

One of those special restaurants that charge both 12.5% service AND a cover charge, you know you're onto a winner.

And who wouldn't be pleased with a piece of salmon served without anything at all for just £12.95.

The pan fried chicken salad with rocket was in fact an escalope.

Its in the city so obviously they're allowed to charge the earth for mediocre food and service, but if it was anywhere else, it wouldn't last 5 minutes.
