very good sushi, decent tempura, tonkatsu curry was excellent as well. service was very friendly and efficient but very much more canteen-style then restaurant, but it is fine for lunchtimes in the city. Highly recommend for having lunch here.

If you can't accept Japanese food that's not "genuine" then this one's not for you. Finding red peppers in a Katsu-don or Naruto fish pastes in a soba-noodle could come as a surprise to those who spent some time in Japan (a bit like being served roast pork with horseradish).

However if you are broad minded about cuisines taking evolutionary steps, then this is a perfectly acceptable place. I come here when I want to have lunch or dinner in the city but don't fancy heavy or oily food. Prices are reasonable and so are the services. It will never be anyone's favourite restaurant, but it will tick quite a few boxes for most people.

People should try other places before going here and even writing a review.

Sushi, noodles, donburi... you name it, however hard they are trying, the taste, texture... uggghh, everything is just awful. I am sorry but it really is NOT Japanese.

Oh, and by the way, don't go there at peak lunch time. You'll be stuck with a small cup of tea for about an hour.

I went there last Saturday. I'm surprised that everyone said the service was terrible and they waited long. I waited no time at all!

Food came quick, was served quick, was YUMMY. i'm going again this saturday. I hope they're still as good!

Absolutely awful customer service. Ordered a take away at lunch time, and was kept waiting for ages (10+ minutes). I did appreciate it was busy at such times, so asked their staff when my food would be ready. Then I heard the rudest statement at a take away ever: "Next time you order, mind the time. We are very busy now."

Thank you for the instruction - there will definitely not be a next time!

Btw my order, vegetarian ramen with pumpkin soup, was absolutely bland with no trace of flavour or whatsoever, only a messy tangle of textureless noodles and some starchy, yellow "soup" with some rather mysterious looking veggies.

I am a regular at this City sushi restaurant and I can recommend most of the food that is on offer here. The sushi is excellent, whilst the bento boxes make for good lunch nosebag. Hot food is also excellent here.

Noting the other comments I must say that the service is often found wanting but I have noticed that when I sit downstairs the service is much better. Certainly I have been in the situation where I have waited half an hour to order. My advice is therefore not to hesitate and order as much as possible at the start.

Went here on a a Friday for a lunch, the service was a little slow, but the food was fabulous! the sushi was so fresh and good portions and the hot food was devine - I had the scallops(little oveprices for these - but well worth the taste!) very nice for an informal lunch, the tables are in sunken holes in the ground with little leather cushions to sit on, good ambiance. There are 3 levels - seems they try to fill up the ground floor as thius is on the street leverl, then ther eis a basement and a first floor.

will definately be going back!

I booked a table for two at this sushi restaurant in the city on the basis of a personal recommendation hoping it might be an appropriate post-Vertigo Champagne Bar venue for a quick supper. Service upon arrival was somewhat lacking (we were left standing by the door for several minutes, being studiously ignored by the more than ample quotient of staff lounging near the counter). We were seated at a glass table in a sunken well, with floor-level leather pads as cushioning. Although there were free tables elsewhere in the admittedly small restaurant area, we were placed alongside three others and had to share table space. Not disastrous but equally not for those attempting private / business – related conversation.

The food was mostly excellent. The sashimi was very fresh, miso and edamame authentic, and I am told the Oyako Donburi was wonderful. I had an eel don. The eel itself was absolutely delicious, although a little heavy on the rice. The sake was good and the food arrived very promptly.

However, the meal was utterly ruined by the attitude and behaviour of the staff during and after the meal. The glass tables mentioned above apparently needed cleaning (despite the fact that the restaurant had now closed its doors to new customers for the evening). A waitress was dispatched with a well-known brand of glass cleaner and proceeded to spray what seemed like every spare table in the establishment.

Unfortunately for us, the pervasive odour of windowlene not only over-powered the delicate flavour of the food, but was actually quite sickening at close quarters. In a small restaurant like this, the constant spraying of a glass-cleaning agent was stifling and inescapable, to the point that it caused my eyes to water. My dining companion and I both asked the waitress if she would mind not spraying the table next to us whilst we were actually eating. She shot us a venomous look before stopping and stalking off to report us to the other staff (it’s not paranoia, they were actually pointing at us).

Two minutes later another, what appeared to be more senior, member of staff came back and continued the spraying, this time on the side of our table (still eating) despite continued protests as to the smell and intrusion. Her only concession to our plea was to shake her head and spray less vigorously, but nevertheless carrying on.

This attitude turned what was a mild irritation and disappointment on my part into disgust. It is such a shame that when serving Japanese food this fresh and of such a high standard, the staff were unable to display even a basic level of common courtesy. Such a flagrant disregard for the comfort and enjoyment of customers ruined what should have been a pleasant and well-prepared meal. I do not expect ever to return to this restaurant.

A light and airy interior with glass tables sunk into the wooden floors, staff are friendly and attentive. Sushi is excellent - fresh and varied, all served from a bar area near the entrance. If you are not a fan of the raw stuff the extensive menu contains alternatives such as surf n turf, curries, noodle dishes and dim sum. A safe pair of hands for a quick city lunch.
