This place used to be great, but the last few times I've been in the service has virtually been non existent. Went in yesterday (13/12/07) and waited 5 mins at the bar with no one appearing. During this time other customers came in, then left. Asked a waitress if anyone was working behind the bar, who then reluctantly served me. Place virtually empty, so found a table, looked at the food menu, but no one wanted to take the order. Took two trips to the bar to get the waiter over. Food is average. They got the order wrong, on suggesting they don't charge for the wrong item, we got £1 off. Not impressed.

With so much competition at West India Quay you'd hope there would be incentive to perform well. I guess this comes down to management though. My advice, try one of the other bars. It's a shame, it used to be one of my favourite bars there.

Paid 8 pounds for "sausage and mash" for lunch. I don't know about you but I like decent sausages with this dish as it does appear to be an integral part of it. They were very poor though, on a par with the greasy cafe next door.

Not impressed.

I would just like to say, I used to work in this bar a few years ago, and I find the majority of these comments really hard to take, you should try working in a busy restaurant serving overpaid and rude suits for 40 hours a week on minimum wage and see how long you can keep smilling.

How times have changed in Canary Wharf, this bar has unfortunately gone downhill from the nice escape it used to be. We attempted to go for a quiet drink after work and were stopped at the door by a surly bouncer asking the 4 of us (aged between 30-35) for photo id which only a couple of us were carrying. I could understand if we were dressed like students and actually looked young but this was not the case! When we said we would go elsewhere they weren't bothered. I'm not sure of their reasons behind this change but there are plenty of other bars in Canary Wharf to give your business to if this is the attitude you meet at the front door.

Have been to Via Fossa several times after work for drinks. As a bar, the place is great, although for dining, you should stick to mains and avoid the rip-off sharing platters (£7 for 8 potato wedges!). The last time I ate here, I had grilled salmon with mash and roast vegetables. I asked the waitress to ensure my salmon was not overcooked, and the food served was cooked to perfection. My Irish coffee was not great (cream & coffee mixed together, served lukewarm), but overall, it was nice to sit outside next to the water, in the sunshine with good food.

I had a horrible experience in Via Fossa Canary Wharf. Staff was very rude and food was cold. Never go back.
