We went to Axis after a Saturday matinee of 'The Producers'. We had a drink in the bar to fill the wait for the 5.45 opening of the restaurant. As soon as the restaurant was open we were shown to our table. The waiter joked that he was impressed with our booking of the entire room. After a while, more people arrived. The food was extremely good, but even more impressive was the service. Without prompting, we were asked if we would like a break between our main course and dessert. We asked for ten minutes and got it. The 12.5% service charge seemed well justified and there was no sign of the extra credit card tip scam. We now have a very good (and slightly cheaper if you have the pre/post theatre menu) alternative to the Ivy.

MY WIFE AND I FINALLY GOT ROUND TO BOOKING AXIS AFTER PASSING IT SEVERAL TIMES OUT AND ABOUT. I WILL MAKE MY REVIEW SHORT AND SWEET... NO ATMOSHERE, SEATS LOOK LOVELY BUT THE POSITIONING AT THE TABLE WAS EITHER TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW! STARTERS.... WELL WE BOTH CHOSE THE SCALLOPS AND I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED AS THEY WERE THE SMALLEST CRUSTS I HAVE EVER SEEN. MAINS WERE NICE BUT I PERSONALLY THOUGHT THAT THEY TRIED TO BE TOO CLEVER WITH THE PARMESAN RISOTTO AND THE LIME JUS DID NOT GO AT ALL. GRAVELAX WAS A BIT TO COOKED FOR ME. ALTHOUGH MY WIFES LAMB WAS GREAT BUT VERY SMALL IN PORTIONS. NO LOBSTER AT 8.30 IN THE EVENING....OH DEAR! APPARENTLY ALL GONE!

POSITIVES THOUGH IF ANY... IF YOU LOVE BREAD YOU ARE IN YOUR ELEMENT AS THEY WILL OFFER YOU AT LEAST TEN SLICES BEFORE THE MAIN. SERVICE IS FANTASTIC WITH FRIENDLY WAITERS, NOT HAUGHTY AT ALL AND ALWAYS THERE!

OH FINALLY THE PISTACHIO PROFITOR ROLLS IN VANILLA WERE ABSOLUTLY AMAZING. BETTER THEN THE STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING AT THE IVY ANYWAY..AND THAT IS BRILLIANT.

PRICE WAS NOT TOO BAD, BUT I DO NOT THINK WE WILL GO THERE AGAIN.

Very good food -- unfussy, good flavours, wide choice. Service polite and attentive. Restaurant is visually stylish, quiet on a summer Saturday night but not dead. Highly recommended.

From start to finish SUPERB. The guy at reception was so helpful and made the experince and my boyfriend birthday so magnificient, helping me to have flowers and champagne for him. The staff was very charming, expecially our waiter Francois! (So nice!!). A big 10 to everything. It is so difficult to find a good restaurant in central London
