Axis at One Aldwych is well and truly one of the hidden gems of London. Not over priced, not too fussy and great value for money. This restaurant must be one of the most under rated places in London and makes me wonder does the Michelin guide give stars out to chefs with more of a well known 'reputation' or because of who they've previously worked with? (Jason Atherton, Heston, etc.)
The staff were all very attentive, helpful and polite. Service was not rushed and was at a steady pace where we were given enough time to digest each course then look forward to the next.
The food was a mixture of courses from the aged rib-eye to the sea bass and the impeccable venison this dinner had it all.
If you're looking for a great meal, excellent service and an atmosphere where it is smart but casual as well as non stuffy then head to Axis. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I love this place and it has become a regular haunt on every trip to London. The food is great, the atmosphere inviting and the service excellent; it doesn't break the bank either.

One of the best restaurants I have eaten in. The decor is modern, unusual, yet comfortable. The food was excellent. My confit of duck, which is one of my all time favourites, was probably the best I’ve tasted. The crab cocktail starter was good but because of the ice cream sundae-style glassware it came in it was tricky to eat without spilling it.
Now I’m not a great pudding person but the lemon tart I had was sensational. Lemony without being over powering, wonderful consistency and a hint of a crust over the surface, like a microscopically thin crème brulee topping.
Don’t expect a noisy bustling type of experience. This place is for a peaceful relaxed meal where food and being able to hear the table conversations are important. Finally word goes to the staff. Very good, friendly, skilled.
I was also delighted that we didn’t have some sommelier come to the table to suggest wine choices. At times this can be an annoying experience, particularly when you have some very experienced wine-quaffers at the table.
