Have had great meals there, and now have the food delivered too - amazing! How wonderful that such a local restaurant can provide and maintain such value, subtle taste and warm service.

Really really good food. Can always rate a Thai restaurant on how good their Pad Thai is! Also, check out the banana fritters and coconut icecream. Didn't realise there was a bar downstairs and have been there loads!

After living 9 years in Chicage, where the food is plenty and not too expensive, the only place that I have found in London that even compares to there for value and portions are yelo.... Well done guys and so helpful too....

I went Yelo with my wife in Sep 2007. As we have been to Thailand earlier, we know what Thai food should be. Although Yelo food is a not 100% authentic Thai, it is very tasty and good. I personally think it is more suitable for western people as it is not too hot.
The atmosphere is good and informal. The meal is not expensive at all.
Some said that the cooking time is unbelievably fast. It is fast and it is how Thai food should be. For instance, stir-flying a few pieces of chicken and putting some rice and some hot Thai sauce on top should not take more than 5 minutes. Microwave is not required.

I love this restaurant and it's my 5 year old daughters favourite. Although the food could not be described as haute cuisine I have always found it to be tasty and consistent, with lots of choice. I wouldn't go there for a special occasion but with starters at around £3-£4 and main courses around £5-£6 think it's really good value for it's location. Great for a quick bite.

Me and my girlfriend went to Yelo last night (10/01/2007) for a spot of Thai. After finding the restaurant and having a quick glance at the menu we were fairly confident.
Upon entering you are greeted by slightly miserable looking workers just haging around. We ordered starter of chicken satay and prawn toast, fairly usual stuff. They turned up in the quickest time I have ever seen. Slightly dubious I took a bite of both to be greated with both bland food along with bland sauces. I have an overwhelming feeling that they had been zapped in the microwave!
Mains ordered were Chicken Red Curry and rice along with Pad Thai with Bean Curd. We also ordered a Papaya Salad.
Again the food arrived very quickly. In fact the plates had just been taken from the starters!
Again a big feeling of "microwave".
To cut a long story short - the food was rubbery and very bland, not the way thai should be. The Red Curry lacking the usual flavour it should have. The chicken used wasn't actually that bad. The Pad Thai, well its lunchtime the next day and I can still taste it! Horrible.
On another note I ventured to the toilet downstairs and walked past a kitchen, seeing 3 "chefs" sitting around talking really confirmed how the food it being prepared here!

Yelo is a nice place to go and eat before a night out in Old Street/Shoreditch but don't expect too much. It's quite small and you share tables with other customers so it's a very informal atmosphere. The service is quick and friendly and the portions are a good size but I wouldn't say it's the best Thai I've ever eaten. It is cheap though and their take away service is very good.
