I was visiting friends in East Putney begining of May and as we wanted to stay local my friends recommended L' Auberge.

I loved the relaxed homely atmosphere and I was impressed by the genuine warmth and hospitality.

I had not anticipated such a wide variety of food and while all four of us picked different things they all tasted fantastic. Desserts were to die for!

Highly recommended if you want a relaxed evening, good food and real value for your money.

I went for the first time this month for their gastronomic evening at l'Auberge and it was the best French meal I had for years and I'm originally from Paris !

Each of the 5 dishes we had was a delight and I felt like my body was thanking me from the inside and the selection of wines recommended marred perfectly what we had chosen.

I can't believe I didn't know this restaurant before so it's the reason why I write this review and spread the world.

This is one of the finest French restaurant I ever been, so don't hesitate, go and taste the best France has to offer.

As my husband and I live close by, we decided to visit this place last night. I'm usually put off by French restaurants as I don't like to be fussed over but this area of Wandsworth really lacks good places to eat. We had the set menu for £17 each, although I chose a dessert on the a la carte menu which was admittedly much better than my husband's.

Starters- venison terrine was nice enough, and my husband's soup of the day was finely seasoned and on the right side of creamy. Main course of chicken and mushroom pie was not bad, I liked the presentation of vegetable parcels on the side and the pastry was nice and fluffy. However it wasn't anything I couldn't have cooked at home. Dessert is the chef's forte. While my husband's creme caramel was bland and unimaginative, my chestnut creme and whisky gateaux really hit the spot. The hostess took the time to chat to everyone and although this was nice, this meant the service was slow despite total of 5 tables.

As they don't do wine by the glass except house wine, not wanting to drink a lot I opted for white house wine. It was a bad choice. I would recommend buying a bottle even if you don't drink it all just to avoid the house wine.

Overall pleasant and just about affordable, I would recommend this place if you're not in a rush, love chatting to the staff and appreciate good desserts. As madame explained, 'my husband is a good cook, but he is VERY good at desserts'. I agree.

I have only ever had positive experiences at L'Auberge. The times I have visited have been for the monthly Gastronomic Evenings, which involves a 5 course meal for £25.

The food is always beautifully cooked, authentic and tasty.

Although the location isn't its strongest point, you forget you're on the Richmond Rd as soon as you're inside the quaint and cosy dining room.

I would definitely recommend a visit for one of the Gastronomic evenings. The service is attentive and efficient.

A very different experience to any other restaurant I have ever visited in Putney, and it makes a welcome change to the standard affair on offer further up the road and onto Putney high street.

Treat yourself!

The food was Food okay but the service was appalling. Food was served extremely slowly and the waitress was quite condescending about the choices we had made. When we refused to pay the discretionary service charge, she said that we should never return again. Quite frankly we wont and we recommend you dont either!!!

We are never disappointed with this gem of a restaurant - fantastic quality food and great specialities. Friendly service and a lovely homely atmosphere make it well worth a visit. We can't recommend it highly enough. Definitely one of the best restaurants around.

Last Saturday, we went to L’Auberge restaurant with friends. With no particular expectation, I must say that I was impressed by the quality of the food, the presentation of dishes and the atmosphere. I think this charming and warm place has got it all. Whether you choose à la carte or the menu, you are not disappointed. The quality of food is nothing less but excellent but wait until the desserts come. This is la Crème de la Crème, absolutely exquisite. The Chef-owner Pascal and his lovely wife Christine are fantastic hosts, you feel at home away from home. This is by far one of the best places in Putney.
