We have eaten at L'Auberge on several occasions and always had wonderful food and wine at very reasonable prices. We regularly eat at some of London's top restaurants and think that if L'Auberge was in a central London location it would be a match for any of them and be packed every night. In the past we have hesitated about writing a review because we would have to share our discovery with others but after the superb meal we had earlier this month (January 2009) we concluded that we could no longer be selfish and should recognise the owners' talent and hard work by writing this review.

After perfectly cooked and delicately flavoured scallops to start my wife had venison while I had cassoulet. Both dishes were superb - food to savour and eat slowly. My cassoulet was the best I have ever had. The wine recommended to us by the owner was an excellent match. To finish we had a mouth watering chocolate souffle. (We have learnt that whatever you do when you go to this restaurant you must always leave some room for desert.)

On top of everything else, service is friendly and informal. The owners are always keen to make sure that diners are enjoying themselves. Together with the excellent and consistent cooking this makes l'Auberge an absolute gem of a restaurant.

L'Auberge is a real treat! The dishes are consistently of a very high standard and the owners add that touch of french ambience to a great dining experience. The pan fried prawns were plentiful and deliciously spiced up with a curry sabayon and the breast of duck with orange blosson and honey jus was delicious. The chef specialises in desserts and both the honey and lavender creme brulee and chocolate and praline mousse were fabulous!

The residents of Putney/Wandsworth have a gem of a restaurant on their doorsteps. It is not so far away from East Putney tube and well worth the effort!

What a wonderful, wonderful restaurant! Having just moved to Putney (and looking for a suitable venue for our 10th anniversary) L'Auberge was the ideal choice, literally moments away. The evening was perfect!

Delightful starters of a roquefort flan and mussels in cauliflower cream were followed by sumptuous mains of vension in red wine and ostrich with wine jelly. Finishing off with mouthwatering desserts of fresh sorbets and pear mousse!

Pascal Ardilly is a fine chef and his wife, Christine, is the perfect host. Her wonderful red wine recommendation (peppery, with a lovely lingering smoothness) and the nicest of personal touches (a happy anniversary message written in chocolate around the edge of our dessert plates!) made this an unforgettable evening.

Quite simply put: book yourself a table here. Walk that little further from Putney's main high streets and find a treasure almost on your doorstep.

Nice to sit in a restaurant where the owners are the chef and waitress. Lots of care taken over the food. Decor is very 80`s but suits this establishment. We will be back.

I have eaten here a couple of times at L'Auberge's special Gastronomic evenings. Both times the service has been attentive and there's been a peaceful environment (you wouldn't think it's on the busy Richmond Rd).

The food is delicious, and every course full of wonderful flavours. Make sure you save some room for dessert - they are always fantastic. Definitely a hidden gem in Putney.

We had a really pleasant evening at this restaurant...the food was delicious and the hostess very accommodating. The atmosphere is quite calm and so long as you request a round table you will be in a good location. My only qualm is the "optional" 12.5% service charge that is added to the bill. I refused to pay this, as I feel it is the customer's perogative whether or not they leave a tip and especially how much they leave. Having said this, I was very happy with the service and did leave a tip!

This was our first visit to the Restaurant and we had an extremely good evening with excellent food. Following very nice starters, two of the party had rabbit which was superb and I had Duck which was equally as good. Madame's recommendation on wine to accompany the dishes did not disappoint us. The deserts were exquisit and well up to L'Auberge's reputation.

Two minor criticisms which should not detract from someone visiting an excellent establishment with really good food. Firstly we would agree with other reviews that, given the reputation of the restaurant for its patisseries that the choice for deserts could have been more imaginative. Secondly during our visit Madame spent nearly all of the time talking solely to two customers. Clearly they were regular visitors but I did not feel it created a good impression for other people eating, although our needs and others in the restaurant were not neglected at all.

We regularly eat in this restaurant and we have never been disappointed by the overall experience. The service is great and right on time, the food is delicious and the desserts are gorgeous. The owners are very friendly with customers and the Chef Pascal is a dessert expert. He and his wife will come and have a friendly chat with you during the dinner. It's always a pleasure for us to have dinner there and we will come back, that's for sure. It's by far one of our favourite restaurant.

We went for an early dinner on a Tuesday night so it was quiet but it did pick up a bit around 8.30pm. Very friendly owners, chef came and talked to us about the food too. Food was great, even bought some of their homemade pate etc. Pudding melted in your mouth....yummy. Would go back without question.
