What a hidden gem. We were recommended to it by a friend and having not enjoyed my food at Sarkhels too much i was a littel hesitant.

But i can honestly say it was one of the best meals i've had in ages!

The service was lightning fast, the portions were huge and the chilli lamb and Prawn Manchurian was fantastic.

We also had the burnt ginger fish to start which would comfortably serve two people as a starter.

We'll definitely be going back there (at least once a fortnight) but hope it doesn't get too popular, otherwise we'll never get a table!

After reading the positive reviews I was looking forward to the chinese indian style cuisine on offer at Dalchini.

We started with a selection of their delicious sounding starters including red pumpkin fritters, steamed wontons and salted squid. Very tasty and great washed down with Indian Chenin Blanc.

After the great start we were looking forward to the main courses. We all opted for the recommended Manchurian style fish and chicken dishes with different flavours of rice. The rice was great, in particular the burnt ginger flavour, the main courses dishes however were a let down. The prawns seemed to be coated in a flourly paste and left them tasteless. The Manchurian sauce was not spicy and lacked depth and flavour.

The staff were friendly however and although the service was quite slow we felt relaxed and enjoyed the atmosphere. I would probably give Dalchini another go but perhaps stick with the starters and forgo the main course.

If this wasn't on my doorstep I would be hot footing it here from wherever I was in London.

It is a unique restaurant, one of a kind in London, with an interesting cuisine - Hakka - best described as a Chinese Indian fusion.

The result is sublime and highly recommended.

Those that live near it feel blessed to have it as their local - others should make their way over here and experience on of London's best.

Class act. The chicken lollipops with dips are to die for. Very friendly service. Brings back memories of yum Chinese food from Chinatown in Calcutta (now, Kolkata), India. The chilly chicken, crispy noodles and lamb dishes are exquisite too. Must eat. One of London's finest.

dalchini is an excellent restaurant. i have never had the cuisine it serves, hakka, anywhere else. the service is good and the staff are exceedingly friendly. i recommend the 5 pound express lunch which must be one of the best value meals in london. its location, almost directly opposite wimbledon park tube station is ideal. your day travelcard could cost you more than your lunch despite the superb quality of the food!
