I went to Le Mercury on a Monday night and i thought it was great! I think the key is not go when its busy, we had great service and the food was good for the price. The waiters were friendly and the wine was good, what more can you ask! Will definitely go back!

I had an evening meal with my family at Le Mercury on Sunday 2 March 2008 for Mother's Day. The meal was very poor, very small portions. The service was ok, but hardly friendly.

I would not recommend it.

This is no French resturant.

They did not even have bearnaise sauce.

We visited on Mother's day - 2nd March 08 and were terribly disappointed.

What was stated on the menu was not what you got....

It was such a con as we could have afforded a better resturant and it ruined our evening. We had already had a bad time watching the incredibly boring movie - There will be blood. For the life of me I cannot understand what it got an oscar for!

I've just read these reviews and also surprised by some of the bad one. I went last week and was so surprised by the standard of the food for the price. The standard is really high. Their well constructed, really tasty, good quality ingredients for £3 a starter and £7 a main course. Amazing, considering the normal price of similar restaurants. Makes me wonder if the chef has changed or something. So i'd recommend this.

A friend of mine took me to dinner to this little restaurant and I was really impressed with the food - not to mention how cheap it was!! The cosmopolitans were very tastey, as was the wine we selected. The pork belly was exceptionally good, and the smoked salmon/crab raviolli with cappucino mushroom sauce with spinach to start was delicious!!!! Although we were squeezed into a corner I found the service acceptable and the ambience was warm and friendly. Look forward to going back!

I ate at the restaurant last night and have just looked up the reviews and amazed at some of the bad comments. This restaurent was excellant. All 3 courses were of a high standard and the winw I chose was good. Value for money it was excellant. If you want to go to Gorden Ramsey and pay a fortune - then go there but this was excellant for an inexpensive night out.

ok it is cheap to eat in this restaurant but the food is one notch up from hospital food. cheap cuts of meat served with a gravy that resembles liquid tarmac.staff are very friendly and efficient but is anyone french?it is fine if you are a student and you want a cheap night out but if you can afford it there are many nicer restaurants on upper street

We went to Le Mercury on a Saturday night, and we had to seat near the door, that was always open with a crowd coming in and out constantly. When asked if it was possible to close the door, the waiter said that it was impossible .

The food was appalling, cold, in small portions and accompanied by rude and sloppy service. We ordered vegetables that were never taken to our table, but nevertheless added to our bill.

At the end of a miserable dinner, after 45 painful minute eating poor food and listening to noisy background music, we decided to ask for the bill and leave the place without even thinking of a dessert.

We used to come to this restaurant often till a year ago, and we loved the atmosphere and the food. Right now, we would highly recommend to avoid it, as there are much better choices in Islington.

Cheap food shouldn't mean bad food and the food here was terrible. Calamari starter for £4 was a really stingy portion and poor quality accompanied by shop bought very vinegary tartar sauce. My boyfriend had lamb with peas and mint which turned out to be mashed peas with shop bought mint sauce stirred in! The broccoli was under-cooked my chicken came with very little of the accompanying cabbage. There is absolutely no love put into the food here. A main is £7 but if you go to somewhere else you pay between £9 and £15 and get food of twenty times the quality. I’m never going here again.

Not a bad place but not brilliant and after all, you get what you pay for.

Staff were amiable but not fantastic, and were ready to squeeze a group of five of us onto what appeared to be a table for two until another one became free.

Food was hit and miss - the goats cheese starter was delicious, but gambas was very small portions. Same with the mains - lamb shoulder was lovely but the chicken with puy lentils was very dry, and desserts were pretty poor.

Overall Le Mercury has a good buzzy atmosphere and would be good for a group of friends looking for a cheap night out but certainly not a great gastronomic experience.
