what the critics say

Telegraph

Matthew Norman

Thursday, December 20, 2012 - It is the same paean to peach it ever was, the staff remain breathtakingly attentive to a largely venerable clientele, and the menu reads like a memento buried in a time capsule...The veal Holstein, an escalope garnished with capers, anchovies and a fried egg, was, enthused my father, exactly as he remembered it. Steak Diane (filet mignon flambéed in its own juices and Worcestershire sauce) was 'good, tender meat beautifully cooked'.

I do not know the people that made those comments but I strongly advise them to see a psychiatrist. Everything at Oslo Court is fantastic. My only complaint is I am not able at times to get a table when I want it.

I have been dining at Oslo Court for more than 30 years. I have never had even a semblance of a bad meal. There is not one thing about it that is not 100% fantastic. Food, wine, service, ambience, price. To me it is the best value for money in London. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, this is the place.

Thanks to Tony Gonzales and his staff.

I have been to Oslo Court several times, and each time is a treat. The Staff

are so friendly and attentive and the food is always sensational, and all the waiters know all the Specials by heart, and the Dessert Waiter is so funny

This is the place to eat.

The person who said that he hated the restaurant but managed to spend £500+ for four must have been dreaming.

Apart from the fact that I have been to Oslo Court on about 10 occasions and have loved it each time, I have never managed to spend anything like that.

As most genuine diners will confirm, the wine list is extensive and as reasonable as you can find anywhere.

They must have all been carried out unconcious.

so glad this has made it into the top ten for food. But it should also be in the top ten overall as it more than a food experience. Love the place

I booked this restaurant for my parents anniversary. I then read some of the reviews on this website, and was slightly worried with my choice. (They had been here 10 years previous and loved it) Upon arriving at the restaurant the decor was most deifnitely not what you might expect from an upmarket restaurant. However this is where the questions of quality ended, free pour wine and spirits, great selection of homemade dishes and a huge menu of the day (recited wonderfully). There was no lack of food in which you find in many restaurants nowadays. The dessert waiter made a fuss of every individual customer, while the overall service was top notch! Some people are never happy, but if you want a lovely evening with generous portions and a friendly atmosphere, check this place out and judge for yourselves! Looking forward to a return visit!

It seems to me strange reading the last batch of reviews for oslo court, people either give it a 10 or a 1, seems to me that they might not be written by true customers. well i can assure you that i am. i have been going to oslo court for over 10 years approx twice a year. it is true that the decor is stuck in the 70/80's, but also is the manners and atitude of the staff which is always correct and very welcoming. the food is also from the old school, but it is very tasty and very filling. I continue to take new people there every year and all love their meal etc, So oslo court keep up the good work

I cannot believe what this reviewer has written. I have been going to Oslo Court for 15 yrs (since I was 13 so I am not one of "those older people") and can only rave about the place. When I go with other" younger" people I do forwarn them that they are walking into a salmon pink retro environment so that they are not expecting some "super-trendy" restaurant, but that is part of the restaurants charm. The food has never disappointed and is certainly not frozen, in any shape or form, I think the person who wrote this genuinely has no idea what good food or good service is - maybe they are one of these people who believe good service is from a place where the staff are particularly rude as they believe they are better than any of the customers and charge a premium for being sneered at, as Oslo Court has some of the most attentive staff at any restaurant that I have ever been to, anywhere in the world. Some of them have worked at the restaurant for >20 years, which shows that it is a fabulous establishment that look after their staff and customers. For people looking for a lovely evening with fabulous food, off an endless menu that can be cooked any way you like, please go to Oslo Court and ignore this review!

We ate at Oslo Court in March 2010. Absolutely fantastic night! The service was top class, couldn't be faulted. The food excellent - any dish could be cooked to your specification, nothing was too much for the staff to do. Choice of foods was an eternal list. There was a great atmosphere around the restaurant. It was 10 years since our last visit (having left England) but on our recent visit this restaurant was top of our list of places to eat. So glad that the place, quality and indeed some staff hadn't changed.
