Friday, November 13, 2009 - The spicy chicken wings are amazing. I can't for all my life work out how, but they spatchcock these tiny cuts so they look like butterflies on a bone, and serve them salty and devilishly hot. The chorizo in wine is slightly curious in that the wine doesn't taste like a sauce; it just tastes like a glass of thin red thrown over the top of a sausage. But the sausage is improbably good; it is everything a chorizo should be, with a subtle tang and a welcoming, crumbly warmth.

Went to La Rueda for the first time last Saturday With 3 others, the food was excellent especially the liver tapas dish and the paella we then had. I have to say the place was packed, very noisy but i guess this is a result of their popularity but even so service is still good, the drinks came very quickly and so did the food. We finished dining at about 11.00 so decided to stay for the nightclub quite different from other clubs the atmosphere although they had english music and not enough spanish still felt quite latino it was a fantastic night out. Thinking of going back this weekend!

I tried La Rueda for the first time and it was great!

Rustic, spanish ambience, with great latin american music playing, and attentive prompt service.

Drinks were served immediately and the starters were at our table within minutes.

The octopus (pulpo) was delicious and came with fresh, dusty, soft ciabatta bread - for dipping in the yummy olive oil, and the grilled king prawns (plancha) although not cheap at £2.35 each! were huge mediterranean prawns and utterly delicious! The garlic on the dressing was raw - so although would have preferred if cooked, it did not detract for the tasty crustaceans!

The mains came promptly when we finished our starters. We ordered the house special 'steak & chips' (spanish style) and request the steak 'very rare-blue'. Sadly the steak was a little cold when it arrived (which often happens in the UK as many people do not like raw meat), but we complained to the waiter and the head waiter/manager swiftly replaced the whole meal within 5 mins, and the replacement was delicious and hot! The portion of the main could have been a little more - but this was pure greed as the food was so tasty and we wanted more, but we were full and satisfied by the end of the meal... so much so, we couldn't even squeeze in a dessert!

Overall - a very pleasant and delicious experience - and with the multitude of great bars nearby, a fantastic location for a restaurant! We'll be going back!!

Booked a table for 5 one week in advance, when we arrived they had no knowledge of the booking!!

Service did not exist took over 30 minutes to get drink let alone order food.

When food arrived , their speciality of beef was far under cooked, medium rare had blood running all over the plate, their mixed seafood platter had rubber calamari, dried crab and overcooked mussels , ~Sea Bass was fine,

Salmon was dry and full of bones. One of the wines served was "off"

When we complained we were told you can have a free coffee!!!!!!

As we were about to leave suddenly we were offered a "shot"

Guess what we didn't take them up on their offer as our cab was outside and we would not go back to this venue again and we would not recommend it to anyone we know.

And we know some very respected figures!!

Oh dear. Can't write a review of the food as didn't get that far as I was too appalled by the customer service that I lasted less than five minutes before walking out.

When I went the place was deserted, which - for 7.30pm on a Thursday night in Clapham - isn't great. My first gripe is when I said I had a reservation the waiter asked me the details of it.... pretty poor: having the vaguest handle on his reservations list would have told him who the single punter in his empty restaurant was.

My main objection though was that a huge flat screen TV was on and it was blaring out the football. Not really condusive to a nice dining experience; even less so when you're the only customer. I asked if they could turn if off and put some music on and he said.... that a customer who was coming had requested it on. Total lie. It was on so that he and his fellow waiters could watch The Match, rather than, presumably, wait tables. I say that because they were all glued to it - backs to the door, gawping at the screen. A bad look, no? I said that I'd wait for my friend and then that we'd probably forgo our reservation in favour of somewhere else. He shrugged. She arrived. We left. I don't think he even noticed that we'd gone.

Never ever EVER put up with that kind of service.
