Took my father to the two brothers for his birthday recently upon recommendation from others! Was bitterly disappointed. The starters were lower than average, squid was in heavy inedible batter and the prawn cocktail consisted of the smallest watery prawns I have ever seen or tasted, also portions were tiny. For the mains, the fish was laced in oil and the chips which arrived cold were pale yellow, didnt look cooked and tasted like frozen chips rather than freshly cut chips. I can honestly say I have never been so disappointed with a fish and chip restaurant in the UK. At close to £115 I was taken aback at the food delivered at the two brothers. I shall be crossing the restaurant off my list and shall not return any time soon. I was thinking to write a letter to the manager but frankly, even if he offered me a free meal there I would not return.... When someone can go into marks and spencers and buy a packet of fresh meaty large prawns for £4 and some crispy fresh lettuce for £1 and go home and make a wonderfully tasty and fresh prawn cocktail themselves they would have to be completely daft to go to the two brothers and order a tiny prawn cocktail consisting of 12 tiny watery prawns! Very fawlty towers like!!!! Also FAR too pricey!

We were there for dinner last night, food was good but was bitterly dissapointed with customer service. The lady who was serving us had a tone in her voice and looked as if she has had enough. The owner needs to consider employing younger and more enthusiastic people to make the atmosphere better. Overall approach and attitude to customers was not polite and i thought they could have done better for the price we paid for the meals as they were not cheap. Although the food was good I will not go there again. I'll better stick to my local and feel welcome at all time. Cheap and cheerful. On leaving the restaurant, we greeted them but they paid no attention and the place was not busy to be left ignored feeling very much underwhelmed. I would not particularly recommend this place only for the quality of service. And probably also decor needs to be uptodate because I last visited the place 2 years ago and nothing much has changed infact back then the staffs were merrier.

This is the only place that we buy fish and chips takeaway locally and with good reason. The fish is cooked to order, it is fresh and delicious as are the generous portions of chips. We enjoy the friendly banter with the staff who effortlessly value great customer service.

Our only hesitation is eating in at their restaurant, which is like re-entering the '70s from the decor right down to the knickerbockerglory on the menu. If we want a treat out, then we would go elsewhere.

Yesterday evening I ordered a takeaway from this restaurant.I cannot believe how this once very good restaurant has gone downhill so much. There was only two other customers waiting. Two young men were behind the service counter, One was busy texting on his mobile phone. Whilst we were waiting for our food the other young man blew his nose into a tissue. He did not wash his hands afterwards which I thought was appalling. I also noticed the floors tiles were filty.

The food was awful. The chips were extremely dry and the cod was far too greasy. The entire experience was very disappointing. I will not be returning .

What a fabulous fish and chip restaurant. Was passing by on my motor bike and my friend noticed it. We walked in and met the manager who is very charming, he is called Enzo an Italian from Naples who knows his fish so he told us. He was charming and very helpful. We were seated an enjoying a glass of champagne within a couple of minutes. I ordered halibut and had it lightly grilled with chips and my friend had a grilled dover sole, both were cooked to perfection. I think we are both hooked and will be back in 2011.

Is the two brothers living on its reputation just a bit? Chips good but not special, fish not as substantial as once it was. Still better than the average chippies though - as it should be, for the price.

So disappointing. This once fabulous stalwart has gone down hill considerably. Our fish was so overcooked it was more akin to sawdust, so dry that we really couldn't eat it, not to mention the portion size was a joke. As for the chips, although you can't go too wrong with them too much, the portion size again was embarrassing. One thing that was good.... their pickled onions. So, unless you are absolutely desperate for fish & chips I would strongly suggest venturing elsewhere. No doubt the queues for Toffs will now be even longer!

Cheese and Biscuits - 8/10

Monday, September 12, 2011 - I don't know whether I should technically still be ordering cod but if they taste as good as this I'm afraid you're going to have to come up with a very convincing argument to stop me. It was fantastic - a crispy (beer we were told) batter, not too thick and not too thin, containing flaky bright white very fresh fish. The chips were, well, I hesitate to use the word 'perfect' but I can't for the life of me think how they might be improved upon; cooked simply in vegetable oil, once doused with malt vinegar and salt they were evocative and nostalgic and just plain delicious in the way all great food is.
