Overpriced and the service is poor verging on offensive. I do not recommend using a taste card useless you enjoy arguing with the staff to get the discount stated on the Taste website. My steak was also well done when I asked for medium. So best ask for rare.

14th February we decided as we were in london for the day we would pre book especially as it was valentines day. We had not been to the resturant for many years but obviously things have changed. the food was luke warm begrudgingly served by a condescending waitress. Who only when asked gave us the wine list , i think she expected us to order without a drink. My husband had a simple steak ruined served on a cold plate with luke warm spinach and very soggy french fries. I had a very fatty boeuf borginonne served on a cold plate. All very disappointing and what a huge price we had to pay. We will never go there again ,let alone recommend it !!!

Having read your reviews,we feared the worst. 14 of us were invited to a big birthday, with a set £20 menu.
But it was just fine. Nice waiters, good ambience, all friendly and relaxed. Delicious mushroom starter for us, then chicken, frites, greens, nice wine. Delicious creme brulee to wind up.
Nothing pretentious admittedly, but a very enjoyable meal in a nice restaurant. Perhaps they've taken your previous reviews on board!

I went to Chez Gerard Charlotte Street last night, I probably won't go back there again. The one good thing I would say is that the portions are generous however the food itself was really disappointing.
Moules Mariniers was SO bland, a classic french recipe I don't know if the chef tasted the liquour but it was like washing up water! No taste at all, not a hint of garlic or white wine, it was basically mussels in tepid water with some chopped parsley floating around in. The chef did not seem to know the difference between well done, medium and rare steaks. We had to send our 'medium well' steak back to the kitchen because it was burned, and then the second one we received was almost bleu, it was so so rare a good vet could have brought it back to life. Blood all over the plate, the meat had obvioulsy not rested after cooking and it was completely soft to the touch, just by looking at it you could see that was a rare steak however this is what the chef at Chez Gerard thinks a 'medium well' steak is...
Some of the food was OK like the Salmon and the Prawn starter but on the whole you can eat better and more consistently good food in one of the many other restaurants on Charlotte Street.

I will never be going back here again, and have also passed on the word to all my London-based friends. The restaurant manager refused to allow my blind mum and her guidedog to eat inside the restaurant - only allowing her to sit outside in the cold. This is against the law and I made that clear to the (French) manager but she just shrugged. I would encourage anyone who has sympathy with visually impaired people with assistance dogs to boycot this restaurant. You will find better French restaurants in London (there are three in Soho for starters) and also other fine eateries in Charlotte Street including the Siam Thai restaurant. Shame on you Chez Gerrard.

Absolutely dreadful! Overpriced and poor quality. We ordered the chateaubriand at £50 (plus side dishes) and were presented with 6 slices of poor quality steak. I immediately complained to the waiter who brought over his (teenaged) manager to explain that the steaks are all carefully weighed and there was no way this was not 180z/500g of meat. Rubbish. I eat in steak restaurants (Gaucho, Goodman, Hawksmoor) once a week and I would be amazed if there was more than 300g for the two of us to share. I refused to pay service and will not set foot in any branch of Chez Gerard again. Overpriced, poor quality and staffed by teenagers who really couldn't give a damn about the clients.

it's not a nice experience at chez gerard these days. I popped in on saturday night nice an early expecting a nice bit of dinner. I was so disappointed. On arrival i was greeted by the head waiter who was gulping down her dinner- not a very nice sight. I had the pate and monkfish and seafood for the main...... it was very poor. more like little chef than a 40 quid a head joint. The flavours were poor and the service even worse. This place reckons it also does the best french fries out of paris- and it can't even get these right. Overall an appalling waste of time fo food lovers nevermind the money the sad part is that you are expecting a nice meal and they can't deliver on it- worse they can't be bothered. If you have an extra 20 quid go to ramsay's over in chelsea- that is a culinary delight a real experience compared to this mediocre and second class place.

Service friendly but ended up in corner with a cold chill - eventually had to move. Wrong main meal delivered. Starter of onion soup tasteless and lying underneath a sludge of molten cheddar cheese. Main meals bland - neither finished even though we were hungry initially. French fries soggy and over cooked. An experience not to be repeated

Went on a Saturday lunchtime in November with friends and had a very disappointing and overpriced meal. My steak was cold, overcooked, tasteless and dry. The fries were also overcooked and the vegetables completely undercooked. We had to send back one dessert which did not fit the description on the menu and consisted of what looked like packet waterbiscuits, this was meant to be a sweet dish.

Be VERY SENSIBLE when dining here. 3 courses for £19.95 sounds better than it is. It's clever, but greens are not included and the need for them only emerges at the point of ordering. Ask how much extra vegetables cost or this will not enter the discussion. Bread and nibbles cost £4 (not a very french practise). We had a pleasant, private meal but the charges did add up. Aperitifs can cost around £7, a large glass of house wine around £6, there's a cover of £1.95 per head and 12.5% cover charge. Believe me it adds up.
The food was sometimes good and sometimes ok, atmosphere quite good, service a bit pushy here and there but ok. Crucially however, it felt too expensive for what we ordered and experienced. It did hurt.
