The Elysee, one of London's oldest Greek restaurants, has re-opened in Fitzrovia after a year-long refurb. The restaurant now features a 1930's inspired dining room with live jazz and traditional Greek entertainment; a first floor cocktail bar and private dining area; and a 700 square foot roof terrace complete with retractable roof. The new menu features contemporary Greek sharing dishes with a refined twist, alongside meze dishes and specialities from the grill. Elysee is open until 3.30am, 6 days a week, so it's ideal for late night feasts.

We had our office Christmas party at Elysee last week and it was fantastic! There were 40 of us and all of us agreed that the food, wine and service were brilliant. Great entertainment too, we danced until 4am!

Went out yesterday to the Elysee with six friends, and I've got to say the more I visit the place the more impressed I am with it. At first it had a few teething problems re: menu and service (new business - to be expected) but was v happy with the food yesterday and service was considerably better than it has been in previous months. The management have clearly been working hard to improve the areas that needed improvement, so well done to them.

Upstairs (Roof Terrace/Bar) - A really really nice vibe. Was pretty busy with light jazzy house playing in the background.. The terrace is like nothing you'd find anywhere else in this part of London - the place has a very "continental" feel to it, which makes a nice change. Spent most the evening here until the terrace closed just before midnight, when we headed downstairs to the club for some live Greek music/dancing etc.

Downstairs (Club) - Wasn't as busy as the last time I was here a month or so ago, but perhaps that's due to most people being on mid-August summer holidays. Nonetheless still a nice atmosphere, people dancing and plates being smashed right, left and centre.

Another good night out at a decent and original nightspot in London.

Elysee was excellent. After enjoying the delicious Greek meze on their magical roof garden terrace, we decided to go downstairs to the main restaurant which had live Greek singing and dancing. We has a great Greek night out. Thank you Elysee.

The birthday dinner I arranged for my girlfriend this weekend was one of the best we have had with our friends in years. The restaurant has a garden on the first floor where we all met for an aperitif before dinner. It was a sunny evening and many diners were having an al fresco dinner which left us feeling a little jealous that we had booked for indoors. Starters were all sharing dishes which meant that we could all have a little of everything which is the usual Greek food: pita bread, tzatziki, calamari etc. Quality was very good. Notable dishes are the spicy beef sausages, chilli squid, and the lamb souvla. We drank a good Greek white called Malagosia which although rather more than I would expect to pay for a Greek wine (£40) was actually a fantastic find and highly recommended. By the time we had finished the main course a band started playing and a singer came out to sing. Such a lovely atmosphere in the room, with around 100 happy diners all talking over the music and each other. Half an hour later diners started breaking the plates after their meal and once the initial shock of the noise of smashing subsided, it was one of the most incredible spectacles. This place is so authentic it is unreal and we will definitely be back.

i went to Elysee for one the first dates with my girlfriend and we really loved it. The food was great (even for my greek friends), service was lovely too (waiters always nearby the table and ready to bring you whatever you ask for). i suggest you go check it out yourself.

Last Friday night I went to the Elysee for dinner and my goodness what a place! I never expected to go for an early meal and not get home untill 4am. Our reservation was for 8pm, the food was delicious and great value.

Plus points: The entertainment - live 5-piece band playing mostly greek songs and the occasional english favourites. A bellydancer comes out at some point and drives everyone wild...

The food - We weren't sure what to have, but we ordered a mezze menu and they brought out some lovely dishes which we could all share. The taramosalata was the best i've ever had.

Minus points: Hangover. It's really loud past 12 so dont stay late expecting to have any quiet conversation!

With its sleek interior and accent aigu, the Elysee tries to present itself as a smart and sophisticated restaurant. But if you think that leather banquets and modernist chandeliers promise something more interesting and elevated than the standard fare at your local Greek taverna, you'll be sadly mistaken. The menu features the same old standbys -- humus, taztiki, lamb and chicken skewers --- prepared to a very mediocre standard. The service is like the food, rather shabby and out of place with the pretensions of the setting.

If my review has not put you off, and you insist on wasting your time and money at the Elysee, I suggest you check your bill very carefully. Our party of seven was overcharged over one hundred pounds. Because it was a birthday celebration and we were trying divvy up the bill discreetly, we almost missed it. When it was politely brought to the attention of the manager, he offered no apology whatsoever.

I arranged a group meal with my friends for my birthday this year and I must say the team at the Elysee Bar and Restaurant truly did a magnificent job.

The food and wine is of excellent and superb quality. My vegetarian mousaka and mezza were not only devine but healthy too! In particular the Maitre D' Ahmed was very attentive and made everyone in the group feel looked after and ensured everyone was having a good time. As for the entertainment... well what can I say other than top notch greek culture at its peak!!! Everyone had a ball with the plate smashing and greek dancing.... the singers and band were truly talented and made the evening truly memorable.

The Elysee bar and restaurant is a sophisticated and welcoming place at affordable prices, a must go place for those who want superb greek food and a cultured but yet fun night.... Elysee and its staff rock! Thank you for making it a truly special evening :)

Having read a previous review, I thought to myself is this the same place that I was at on Saturday 14th May 2011. I googled the name Elysee Restaurant and found it to be the only one in London.

It was a surprise 30 birthday party which my husband had arranged for 14 of us, so we had arranged a mini bus to pick us up and get us there for 8pm. We were taken to the upstairs bar for cocktails and drinks and found a great outdoor terrace also. There were maybe 20-30 other people upstairs creating a really good atmosphere which started the night with a bang.

The manager of the main restaurant came upstairs at about 8.45pm and told us that our table was ready for us and we could go down at our leisure. We sat down at our table at about 9.15pm and by 9.30pm our starters had reached the table which were of the highest quality. There must have been over 15 different starters as sharing plates and each one was great.

We asked the waiter to delay the main course for an hour whilst we danced to the live show. The mains arrived which were even better than the starters. The dessert were platters of fresh fruit. This restaurant is probably one of the best places I have EVER been to. The service was fantastic the food was even better and the atmosphere was something I had never experienced before. I don't usually write reviews but after having read one of the previous reviews I had to write my review. All the way home on the mini bus we never stopped laughing and complimenting the Elysee Restaurant. Thank you for a very very memorable evening. We will all be coming back.

Ok where do I start? Had some family over visiting from another country and going off the recomendation of a friend of a friend we decided to give Elysee a bash, given the recent refurb and that so much money had been spent on the decor. Please do not judge a book by its cover as this place was the worst restaurant I have even had the misfortune to eat in in all my life.

Not only was the service appalling, the food was substandard and the whole night was a shambles.

We called up for a booking the night before and were told that they restaurant was fully booked but they would make room for us upstairs . When we arrived, there was not a soul in the restaurant (it was 8.pm on a saturday night). We were ushered to a private room upstairs (there was 8 of us altogether) and this is where the fun began. We were left sitting in this room for 20 minutes before we were served, we complained and a waiter eventually came to our service to serve some drinks, we then had to endure the clueless waiter forgettting our drinks order so he had to come back and take them all again as he lost his previous list of drinks???!

Eventually after the drinks arrived we had to wait a further 30 minutes to order some starters which when they did arrive came in dribs and drabs and looks like reheated muck.

Eventually things got so bad that we asked for the bill and told them that we did not want the rest of the starters or the main courses that we had ordered and we wanted to leave. We asked to speak to Management, eventually someone came along and apologised profusley when we said we were leaving and not paying for the horrible food that did arrive. As a token of apology they offered to move us downstairs to the restaurant (bearing in mind this is almost 2 hours later). We should have just cut our losses but decided to humour them and go downstairs where we were sat in a dark drafty corner. It might still be worth noting that only 2 tables were occupied at this point and on a saturday night!. Things went from bad to worse, it was like we had 6 Manuels waiting on our table and each one as gormless and clueless as the other.

Just to conclude, it was so bad, the waiters so rude that we were told we would not have to pay for any of the food, the Management plied us with "free" bottles of wine to apologise but when it came to paying they still tried to charge us for food AND the supposed "free" wine they were giving us!! A total and utter travesty! do no waste your time, money or effort on this place which was a total Big Fat Greek DISASTER!!!!
