I had lunch at Hardy's on 15/06/2011.

It was a very pleasant experience - good food and helpful staff.

I cannot understand the adverse review comments filed by others?

Booked for 2pm on a Sunday (13 February) for 4 people. Arrived on time and ordered meal - waited until 3pm and no sign of any food. Queried this with waitress who didn't seem too concerned. Second waitress then apologised saying there had been some comnfusion in the kitchen. Waited another 10 minutes and complained again - we had only ordered 1 starter which then appeared. By 3.30pm we still had not received our main courses - therefore left and ate elsewhere!!

My first visit to Hardy's was a mixed affair, but I'm certainly keen to go back..

Let's get the main issue out of the way, my mother ordered lamb and received pork. We went with it, but having politely informed the waiter later on, I was surprised to not get any discount or reduction on the included service charge.

Aside from the above gripe, service was impeccable, and friendly. We chose to sit in the informal brasserie area; it was busy but not too noisy, and the vibe was charming and warm. We both agreed the atmosphere was just 'right' in there.

I started with the leek, parmesan and almond tart - absolutely stunning. Wonderful contrast of textures, with a crisped top and soft, unctuous centre and satisfying base. This was a gem of a starter, utterly lovely.

My main of salmon fishcakes with a poached egg, spinach and hollandaise (I added new potatoes as a side) was good - pleasing fishcakes, runny egg. Spinach a touch watery on the plate and I thought the hollandaise had a dash too much lemon. But, an enjoyable dish. My mother's pork was apparently excellent.

For dessert I had the chocolate brownie with ice cream - nice - and my mother went for an interesting looking gooseberry jelly which she said was a little too sharp.

Superb wine list. We went with a lower-end Valpolicella (about £22) which was great.

All in all a mixed affair, yet thoroughly enjoyable. I look forward to a follow-up trip.

One of the worst diner experience ever in London!

The mussels we had, their Friday special, were small and untasty... French fries looked like mcdonald's but cold and even less tasty...

People at the restaurant all looked very depressed by the food and probably by their bills at the end!

Don't be seduced by the nice brasserie style deco, this restaurant is clearly a don't in the marylebone area!

We ate at Hardy’s on a deal where they rolled back prices to 1984 as it was their 25th birthday. Pity that they also rolled back portion sizes to 1884. Garlic mushrooms for starters consisted of two squat mushrooms. Cheese and filo parcels were greasy and over-powering. Scampi and chicken dishes were both cheap quality. It’s a pity as Hardy’s is local to us and we would have returned.

Utilised a 50% off offer, and pleased I hadn't paid full price. Food was disappointing - for a start we had to send back one main and two side dishes as they were cold. Scallops were nicely cooked, but tiny and needed a second basket of bread to feel satisfied. Seafood and chorizo stew had a decent variety of fish, but there was a lack of subtlety and finesse about the dish - it was just full on paprika and nothing else. Other dishes were demolished, but apart from the recipient of the fish and chips, noone looked overly enamoured. On my first visit, I too enjoyed the fish and chips all I can say is, if they don't have them on the menu, enjoy the bar and try somewhere else for dinner.

My wife and i chose this restaraunt to spend our Valentine evening together, after i read some of the great reviews, and being a taxi driver i had taken some people there from time to time who raved about it.

So i booked a table and really looked forward to our special night at the restaraunt.

I immediately on entry realised the dull and deadness of the ambience and atmosphere i began to think i was at a wake. We were shown to our seats and presented with a free glass of Champagne each.(lol) Our three course set menu

began with a kind of pate platter, which was nice but scarce. (not special)

THEN THE MAIN COURSES - I had the fish and my wife had the Lamb (pitiful portions)

Dessert - I had the creme broule (disgusting) My wife had Chocolate desert with berries (tasty)

THE BILL AT THE END WAS A GOOD EIGHTY QUID BUT NOT GOOD VALUE AT ALL. I was actually very dissapointed with the portions and the value for money aspect.

The waitress and her partner were very polite but lacked enthusiasm.

Another disappointment was that i am a big Thomas Hardy reader and i know he lived in Dorset Street when in London, sadly there was no evidence of that on the walls at all... weird! or is it an unknown fact by the proprietors?

Went to Hardy's last night on your 50% off food offer - its was great and would have been very good value for money without the 50% off - with it, it was an absolute bargain! Food was splendid - (I had Wood Pigeon, girlfriend had Trout) the ambience was lovely, very friendly and relaxed and the service was great. We've been to a few of the more formal restaurants locally (Galvin, Michael Moore) and this is much more laid back - but we will definitely be coming back to this one regularly - specially at these prices - three courses for 2 including wine and service for 60 quid - wow!!
