We went on a rainy wednesday evening so the place was quiet, although certainly not empty. It's an intimate spot and whilst it is dated, it has a certain charm, perhaps because it has not been modernised to death. I remarked that it looked like the sort of place one always hopes to find tucked away somewhere in Paris (but never actually do).

The service was excellent throughout; unobtrusive but efficient, talkative when we asked questions, humorous but professional.

The gravadlax and the squid starters were excellent. The ham with figs and chilli was somewhat over-spiced, but not unpleasant. When the main courses arrived, the Cod, the kidneys and the duck confit were all lauded. I ordered goulash which was delicious. If it had any fault at all, it was that it was slightly over-abundant, which is a rare (and fairly cheeky) criticism. We accompanied the meal with, and enjoyed, a very reasonably priced spanish red wine.

The ladies somehow managed to find room for a dessert and chose crumble and custard. If speed and intensity of consumption is any indicator of quality, this was excellent.

The meal worked out at £35 a head including service and was well worth it. I have no reservations in recommending this place.

My word, no feedback since mine! Well fourth time since then: first and foremost the service is probably one of the best in London, consistently exemplary and indiscriminate; delicious starter of sardines was huge consisting of 3 fat fresh fish; the sirloin steak as main was more generic but perfectly medium rare and the sublime cheesecake was enough for two. No Victor Meldrews here allowed, at less than £30.00 a head, an absolute no brainer!

Went with a couple of friends last weekend. With a budget of around £30 per head, this place seems ideal. My starter of Black Pudding and Bacon salad was good, however my Lemon Sole in Dill sauce was sadly reminiscent of a supermarket ready meal. The other two were more complimentary with their choice of dishes, especially Langan's signature Choc pudding.Service was pretty much exemplary and efficient, atmosphere was 'bistroy' and not at all stuffy and as for value, you'll need to be a Victor Meldrew in order to thump it.

i last went to this place some 15 years ago when food in london was the laughing stock of the world. It was regarded as the place to dine for its quality and buzz. for some strange reason i wanted to entertain my guests here, dont know why but i did AND regret it.

unfortunatly for langans the world has moved on and it hasnt.

firstly we were greeted by rude staff then chucked at our table. i had the lamb and it was tough despite been pink - my friends had salmon which was past its sell by date. the wine we had was strangley fish tasting - i changed my glass and it was still the same taste?

the desert we had was teacle tart with custard - when i poured the custard it lumped out across the plate.

this was quite possibly the worst meal i have had in london for years. please do not go here it is lost in the past and just hasnt moved on. the place is everything that was wrong with dining in london that great cooks like atkins etc have endevoured to replace with hardwork and creativity to give london the name it has today. it was the worst £200 i have spent. PLEASE DONT EAT HERE IT REALLY IS VERY POOR

I love Langans - I've been there a few times now - both on work lunches and also with a group of girls. Each time I've found the food excellent and it has a great atmosphere. Ideal for a special occasion or just for a girlie catch up. The food is reasonably priced with good portions and typical 'English' food.

This is a small, intimate, very pleasant restaurant, the tables are covered with white tablecloths and the walls covered in an interesting collection of pictures. We had not booked but were given a table straightaway. Our food was good and well cooked, we had duck with lovely crisp skin and chicken covered with bacon; the selection of vegetables were nicely done. We also had a chocolate pudding and fresh fruit salad - both delicious. The service was friendly and helpful - a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Two courses for £18 - can't be bad!
