A visit to Michael Moore always makes for an excellent night out. The duck salad in all its re-incarnations over the years remains my favourite. My rack of lamb was perfectly cooked, whilst my wife enjoyed the lobster combination. Food spot on as always.

Pretentious piffle. Over elaborated, over flavoured and well over priced.

Not repeating that experience or recommending.

We had a brilliant meal at Michael Moore on 02.10.10. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu with matching wines and were not disappointed.

Service was excellent, very friendly and informative around the food and wine we were going to have. The food was just delicious, with some lovely amuse bouche and palate cleansers too.

We have visited twice before and will go back.

We had a terrible experience with Michael Moore and will never return. We arrived after having a confirmed 7:30 reservation for 3 from Top Table and they had reserved us a table for 2. The restaurant was empty and the maitre d' was not going to accomodate us in any way, even after showing him the email confirming the number. Most of the tables for 2 were well spaced and moving in an extra chair would not have been difficult. He was arrogant, smug and rude.

We will be sharing this information with all our London friends.

We visited this restaurant last week, just passing through decided to come in, actually it was a bit late, and the place was pretty busy... but we got a table for four... the service was great and the blond waitress was helpfull, smiling, and wonderful, though the food wasnt so great as we expected.. we felt that we geting just the last pieces of the day... Myself I wont be back, though I liked so much friendly staff...

We had the most bizarre experience here yesterday evening.

First let me say it's the second time we've been and both times I think the food has been lovely. Cooked to a high standard, done imaginatively, good value.

It's a small place and they pack you in so I wouldn't say it's massively comfortable but no matter. The food's great.

However, last night the service was mental, there's no other word to describe it. Our waitress was either extremely eccentric or just plain mad!

A few examples. I went to the loo and obviously forgot my napkin was on my knee so when I returned she gave me a new one and told me in no uncertain terms to be more careful next time.

I went to refill my glass with wine and she fair scooted across the restaurant to take the bottle off me and pour it herself. I explained politely that I was happy to pour the wine myself, but she carried on trying to wrestle the bottle off me. I then explained that I would actually prefer to pour my own wine and she wasn't having any of it. We played tug of war for a few seconds before I relented such was my embarrassment.

She then proceeded to spill drops of wine over my partner's top. Accidents happen. But instead of apologizing as my partner wiped the wine away she simply said "cold is it?" in answer to my partner's quiet grumbling.

We ordered our food. We were going out afterwards, none of us was particularly hungry and we were happy just to have a main each with no sides. She looked at us like we were mad and said we must have sides. We politely declined. She said, "no I really strongly recommend you have side dishes". We patiently explained that we were happy without sides. She carried on remonstrating with us until I asked her if she was working on commission which she found faintly amusing and left with our order.

We were the only people there (it was early) and I feel the Maitre d' must have been aware of the somewhat eccentric behaviour but didn't intervene.

The three of us found the whole thing quite funny, like a scene from fawlty towers or something. But to be honest the service really badly let down what is otherwise a decent place serving well put together, interesting food.

Pig Pig's Corner

Pig Pig's Corner

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - The whiskey gravadlax with vanilla scallops was a real treat on the eyes. Although I felt the gravadlax was too salty here, the scallops were incredible; fresh, perfectly cooked, very tender. The natural sweetness of the seafood was further enhanced by a sweet salad dressing...The honey tilapia with fava beans was the outstanding dish of the day. The tilapia on its own was very good to eat; fresh, succulent, cooked quite simply really with just some honey glaze to sweeten the meat. However, the fava beans in ginger sauce were so delicious I could have just eaten a whole plate of it and left the restaurant happy.
