Used to really like this place, but quality has gone down quite a lot recently. On most recent visit I ordered scampi, but when it arrived it turned out to be processed fish in breadcrumbs. The manager told me that this is what scampi was supposed to look like.

The fish here is the antidote to every greasy fish dinner in town when you get fish that is not fried. Sure, you can order the fried here, but even that is not greasy, just tasty.

We are from the states (Calif.) and have minimal experience with "fish and chips" restaurants. North Sea was recommended in Lonely Planet, so my wife convinced me this was worth a try. We were just blown away by the menu, the variety of fresh fish, the grill option, and the quality of the entire meal. Service was first rate, as well. We went back about 10 days later and it hit the mark again! We leave London tonight and we're going to North Sea for our send-off dinner. Great spot...oh, try the desserts.

We were recommended to this restaurant, have just paid our second visit and cannot speak too highly of the food, service and ambience. We have eaten in many fish and chip restaurants over the years and this rates in the top three without any doubt.

If you are ever in this part of London, please make a point of visiting and you will not be disappointed. The quality of the food is second to none.

Yes we have been again, absolutely incredulous about a recent review. We are pleased to confirm that there is no change in the very high standard, or in the management. The people who look after you are family and and you could not meet nicer. We had enough food for 24hrs because we had the Jumbo portions and I forced down bread and butter pudding made by Mama. Really fresh tasting, hot as hot and washed down with house wine.

One of our favorite places in London for plain fish and chips, no frills. The food is more than modest, it is superb. Good value, too. Kind of limited choice, I agree, but they will try their best to accommodate your taste. Sadly, no draft Guinness. Sadly, they have switched from creme brulee to a caramel pudding. Perfect otherwise.

I live a long way from London, so I go to North Sea Fish only once a year, but it's still my favourite restaurant. The batter is wonderful and the house white wine even better - and remarkably cheap considering its quality. Nice friendly atmosphere as well.

We've been going to the North Sea fish bar for years and always enjoyed the welcome, the food and I'm sure my boyfriend enjoyed looking at the pretty waitresses. However it seems to be under new management and has really gone down hill lately.

We had a meal there and half of the menu they didn't have. We asked for some bread and butter with our meal and it was mouldy!!

They didn't have half the beers on the menu either. After years and happy times in that restaurant we won't be going there again.

I actually looked on this site as I did not have the North Sea's 'phone number with me, as I left my umbrella in there last night. So I thought I would add my comments for Angela and her staff.

The best fish & chips in Town and always has been (we have tried several fish restaurants over the years), we have been going to the North Sea for the past twenty years. It is so refreshing for an old established restaurant to buck the trend and not turn itself into one of the modern day trendy bar/restaurants. No deafening music, just background on occasions, the place buzzes with conversations at the tables. Staff always friendly and courteous and always ensure that your meal is to your satisfaction.

NSF is one of our favourite restaurants, and DEF the top in the fish and chip category. Staff are courteous and friendly (we are offered our 'usual table' when just dropping in w/out booking ahead) and the food is scrumptious. The decor may not be top notch but as long as the food and service are good and the place is clean (which it is), what else is there to worry about?

I love the butter fish and am looking forward to its appearance in early summer. For now, I'll make do with the large grilled cod - luvvly!
