Pizza Express (Coptic Street)

Normally I love this chain of restaurants, but this particular one was awful. It had been a bad day for my parents and me, after spending the night at the hospital, we were looking a bit worse for wear.

Despite the restaurant being pretty much empty, we were shoved at the back, next to the toilets and kitchen door, told that every other table had been booked.

An hour later, the other tables were still empty. My mum's pizza was cold on arrival, and when we complained, she was rudely told by the waiter "that's how it's supposed to be, didn't you know?"

Shortly, we were joined at the back by a hippie family of three. Obviously, this place has a section for 'undesireables' which we found humiliating and infuriating. This was the last thing we needed after such a terrible weekend.

I first came across the gem of a 'Pizza Express' when I worked in London nearby 20 years ago. Whenever I am LOndon on business or with family - a trip here is usually on the cards.

It still has to me my favourite of the Pizza Express chain. The old tile walls and interesting windows (I think it was the site of an old dairy) add to the pleasant atmosphere.

Food is absolutely fine and very reliable. The staff, who seem to have been here years too, are always pleasant and accommodating of my children.

The location is ideal - a stone's throw from the British Museum and the bustle of Oxford St./Tottenham Court Road.

I first went to this restaurant in 1967!Over the years I have been often, I've had many bithdays there.It is always good value and so reliable; there was only a little disappointment in the early 80's. The pizzas taste so good, and as for size who wants to pig-out on dough when a good salad accompaniment makes a complete meal? In recent years the extended menu has catered for our more educated tastes, and with competition, adding to the pleasure. I hope to continue going and will always look forward to the genial atmosphere.

you can always smell the tasty smells when walking past this restaurant and the pizzas ar delicious. the portions are tiny tho and seem to get smaller each time i go. Not value for money the size of pizza for prize. Friendly waiters but if its busy be prepared 2 wait

The original and the best Express. Feels much less chain like than most of the other branches. Pretty decent value but of course its not going to knock your socks off.

About 7 years ago we "discovered" this restaurant and since that time we always eat there two or three times as we are in London for a few days. The food is excellent and so is the staff. It's a very clean place and we love to be and eat there. Try the garlic bread and the ceasar salad with chicken. Not to forget the American Hot Pizza and ofcours the espresso with a glass of Sambuca. You will always remember this Pizza Express.
