I have recently arrived in London from the USA, and I was looking for a Kosher
Restaurant, and I came across Reubens in Baker Steet. The menu was very
traditional and good vaule for money, I will definitely be making a trip back as
I found the service very professional.

This is my place of choice for a tasty meal in the west end. The food is fresh and tasty and the staff are always friendly. I specifically recommend the 'chicken and chips'. It also a great location near Baker Street tube and you can park outside in the evenings.

This place is amazing i travel to london alot and i only eat kosher... the food is always amazing, the portions are huge by any standards, staying in central can be tricky in shabbat but with reubens its no problem they double wrap everything so you can reheat. They just did a really nice refurb there its now beige downstairs with gold and israeli blue upstairs... This place is great for tourists, familes, businessmen and couples infact Reubens cater's for everyone... the one thing that would be nice is if they would open another one nearer to me...(new york)
Salt beef (corn beef) is the best ive tasted and much prefered over blooms... guys go to reubens for a home away from home!!!!!!

As you enter Reubens Restaurant the counter staff peer at you as if they have never seen a customer before. No one asks your intentions, as in, upstairs snacky? downstairs, full on, 3/4 course meal? Sadly on reflection we made our way downstairs, four of us. Our first mistake was to sit with two of us facing the two/three waiting staff who seemed to be watching our fascinating behaviour patterns at the table. Starters and main courses were enjoyable apart from the Broccoli which was definitely frozen and very odd tasting. We politely sent that back which clearly rattled the chef and the rude and abrupt waitress who came at us in a frantic rage after we complained about the one portion of Lockshen pudding which we naughtily agreed to share as a desert. It came up luminous yellow with a powdery texture and we all agreed ….inedible, particularly if you know what the real thing tastes like. We explained that it was impossible to eat out of choice. The waitress seemed to think that we were looking for a bill reduction and continued to speak to us in a most unfortunate, patronising and rude manner. I tried to insist that this problem was not so important and that she should calm down. After paying a £128.00 bill (plus 10% service which, on reflection we stupidly paid) we went upstairs to leave I asked and was told by an upstairs server that the waitress from hell was her mother, who is the owner of Reubens. Well that says it all. No wonder the restaurant was empty apart from us. Caveat Emptor!

We went there one Sunday for a family meal and had to walk out.. Why? The unbelievable rudeness of the people working there. To begin with as we were at the counter trying to order food (there were no other customers in the restaurant ) we made to wait 10 minutes whilst the three people behind the counter stopped talking amongst themselves. Finally they took our order but in a very aggressive manner. Having complained to the Manager who said he would have another waiter serve us (no apology though!!) our main courses arrived where upon they were all wrong. Instead of the salt beef I was given the Roast beef and my wife received steak instaed of the roast chicken. Only my 8 year olds daughter's meal was correct. Needless to say we called the manager over were upon to my utter disbelief he started screaming calling us liars and said that that what was what we ordered. I said for him to check the orginal order which he produced from the counter and surprise! surprise! the order was correct and what we were given was wrong. There was no apology from the manager and at this point I and my family got up and left the restuarant with the manager screaming that we needed to pay for our starters so I flung a £10.00 note at him. So beware this is not the same Reubens that existed in the late 1970's and 1980's on the other side of Baker Street which was exceptional . This new place seems to be run by people who don't know the first thng about customer service. No wonder there were no other customers there!

Well ladies and gentleman welcome to the world of kosher food. And also welcome to the world where they're are doing you a favour. The manager is delightful awful and to customer service, who would apply such maverick practices?
If you're kosher and you're in London you've got little choice (other than the medico 613) which is why I've been there a few times and a little annoyed I only can eat meat in few place. The food is overly expensive and there is no attempt to give value for money.
A couple of stories - 1 - I ordered a chopped liver sandwich. They pile it on the bread and like-every-where-else-in-London I asked for salad. "NO" they said. A few minutes of arguing. I won :) - 2 - My friend ordered the daily special which they brought over to us. So I politely asked, can I have a serviette. "you've got to get it yourself", eh?
If you're trief got to the salt beef bar in Selfridges

The chicken soup stood out as "straight from a packet mix" ; the kneidles were fit to strap to chains and use in ninja fights - hard. The chopped liver was produced to an unusual consistency more like charouset than pate but really rather likeable.
The main courses were adequate and comparable in taste to those found in Golders Green restaurants. They were however smaller portions and larger prices. The actual Reuben's special that I had was in no way special more of a Reubens average to be honest. At almost £20 the stake was soft and cooked satisfactorily but I've had much better kosher steaks elsewhere for much less and the special sauce was a sickly sugar concoction with a squirt of mustard.I did like it but not enough to order it again and it would certainly not delight a sophisticated food diner as such it justified neither its price nor billing.
The meal was simply average whilst the bill was outrageously expensive. It came in at £220 - 4 adults and 5 childs meals - excluding service - an almost identical meal at Solly had cost less than £140.
We saw no other families dining there perhaps it was too early on a Sunday night.Or perhaps the adults of the family don't like to be ridiculed.
Children's prices were not printed on the menu so imagine my surprise when a half bowl of packet ready tasting chicken soup was charged at £3.95 whereas the adult full portion was only £4.95. Mathematically speaking I'm not up with the Einstein's of this world but I'm sure half of £4.95 is not £3.95.
A children's chicken nuggets and chips and a children's burgers and chips were billed at £9.95 each
Two glasses of coca-cola were billed at £2.00 each.In front of our eyes one can of coca-cola was used to fill the two glasses.
So for £17.90 each each child may receive half a bowl of soup , a childs meal of either burger of chicken nuggets and chips/latke and one can of coca-cola/soft drink.
The same childs meal in most other kosher restaurants is almost £10 less.
Therefore don't go if you want to eat real absolute top quality (it was only average) , don't go if you want to take children(families don't appear to be catered to) , don't go if you like value(it was disproportionately and unjustifiably expensive) , other than that go ahead enjoy.
P.S. my friend's salt beef did taste really good but it did not compensate for the rude so called "manager" and the overall dissatisfaction. I only wanted to go there because of the reviews at this site and it is almost impossible to believe that I ate at the same place as some of the other reviewers.

I've just taken my son to Reubens for his 19th birthday. it was our first visit.
The food was so beautifully presented that my son couldn't resist taking photographs of it all on his phone, and it tasted as good as it looked. The customers were chatting and cheerful, and the service was friendly, unobtrusive and flawless.
When we'd finished our starter and main course, they dimmed the lights, brought him a plate of ice cream, and lokshen pudding with a lighted candle in it, and sang happy birthday to him. I think (in the dark) that most of the other customers joined in the singing. As they left, they all came over to wish him happy birthday and, of course, to ask him how old he was.
The lokshen pudding of my childhood was crunchy, with sultanas and burnt bits. Tonight's was tender, melting, orangey and delicious. They also brought me a chocolate mousse, which was very chocolatey and equally delicious.
We ate in the restaurant, so we were pampered, but we could have gone to the self-service part. My son wants to go back to stock up on their salt beef, and he has been told that he will get a student discount!
It was a happy experience, and we'll definitely be going there again.
