Having read the reviews I was somewhat sceptical at what to expect. I arrived at 12.45 without a booking for a business lunch. Despite being booked up, The front of house manager let us have a table but made it clear we should be out by 2, politely but perhaps over firmly.
I found the service pleasantly unhurried and the waitresses very friendly. Had the stuffed squid for starters which really was very lovely. This was followed by the lamb which again- I couldn't fault.
Pleasant surroundings, good food, reasonably priced, good service. Would happily go again.

Having spent a wonderful evening at Sardo earlier this year, we decided to return for my mother's Birthday. Unfortunately, this time, it did not live up to expectations. The service was great and the wine lovely, but the food was indifferent, verging on poor. Our starters were good - but we did go for the mixed fish platter so it is a little hard to go too wrong. However, the main reason for our return was the memory of the melt-in -your mouth steak we had had the previous time. This time, both the quality - the steak was badly cooked and verging on tough - and the quantity of the meat was disappointing. When asked by the waitress if everything was ok, I honestly replied that I didn't think the steak had been up to standard. Complaint registered, I went back to enjoy my evening. That is until the manager barged over and started insulting my opinion of the meat as ignorance. When I patiently explained we had had it before and it was markedly different, he refused to acknowledge my view and continued berating me in a rude and aggressive manner. I will definitely not be returning.

Sardo seems to be more of a business lunch/ early evening office type venue so maybe that explains the rush sometimes - It is what customers want. We had a very pleasant unhurried evening on a Saturday night and a few pints in the Grafton afterwards. The food was good and the service just quiet and efficient.

I went to Sardo for a late lunch on a weekday this week. The place was packed out but we were lucky enough to get an outdoor table on a gorgeous day. I was impressed by the food and the wine. I'm not normally a pasta fan, but my spaghetti bottariga was amazing! Quite a revelation. My starter, the tartare of tuna, and the dark chocolate ice-cream were also good, though less distinctive, I suppose. I didn't think the prices were unreasonable for W1 and our waitress was delightful. Really no complaints!

Having read many reviews on Sardo I thought we should give this restaurant a go. The welcome on arrival was terse and unfriendly, our table cramped and uncomfortable.
Then to the food we both opted for the stuffed squid to start which was tepid, followed by an unimpressive main courses, it felt as though they were trying to rush us through as quickly as possible!! We didn't bother with the dessert and decided to continue our evening elsewhere.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the negative half-Sardinian reviewr below.
Though the food is of acceptable standard, I fail to understand how people can patronise this place at these prices, when with a short walk Southwards they could pay less for incredibly more inspiring culinary experiences in venues such as, just to name a couple, Via Condotti and especially Latium.
it is a nice thing to have a restaurant in London which concentrates on Sardinian specialities which are sometimes hard to find even in Italy. But this place could have a sense at half the prices. As it is, it doesn’t. Shame on all the British critics whose positive reviews adorn the webpage and the front entrance of Sardo.

Our meal was excellent the serice was good and the atmosphere very pleasant. All in all a very pleasant evening. It is a fact that many people only give a review when their experience has been poor - I thought I would try to redress this imbalance.

Given the complaints about the standard of service I was pleasantly surprised with this place. The service was efficient and polite, and we even got a complementary Limoncello when we pointed out we had been given the wrong bill (£40 less than our actual bill - so we were essentially thanked for being honest. A nice touch). The food was a little overpriced, or quite a bit depending on your point of view, but the venue was excellent - a really nice atmosphere. Portions were prefect. Tiramisu was perfection. Overall not on a par with Vasco & Piero or Tentazioni but still a good night out.

Being half Sardinian myself and also having grown up in Sardinia, I was very curious to try out Sardo.
Sadly I was most disappointed, the starters were indeed small, and I was unfortunate enough to hear the owner chastising the waitress for the 'big size' of our starters.
The most disappointing thing however, was definitely the malloreddus dish. This is my most favourite dish in the world, but at Sardo’s I found the pasta to be very undercooked (we’re not talking al dente here, it was like it had just been dipped in hot water) and the delicious sauce that goes with it was bland and far too salty. It is the worst malloreddus I have ever tasted.
My husband tried the sardinian sausage and whilst it was edible, it was about as Sardinian as the Tower of London.
Sebadas is a delicious dessert of light puff pastry, fried, with beautiful gooey cheese in the middle and topped with honey. This is not what I got. Instead I got heavy pastry that resembled a cornish pasty.
My advice would be to save your hard earnt cash and instead of paying through your nose for a meal at Sardo's, catch a flight to Sardinia and try the real thing!
