Spaghetti House (Vernon Place)

I would not recommend this restaurant simply because they have changed and do not serve good quality food any more. We went 6 of us for a quick dinner before visiting British Museum and it took us an hour to be served. Simple mushroom risotto looked like soup, pizza and meatballs on the special chefs menu did not taste up to basic supermarket standards and were very blend. Besides, chef definitely had problems to coop with the orders and kept burning food. We were given a table downstairs in the basement and we could not breeze because of the unpleasant smoke from the kitchen. I would recommend Pizza Hut or Pizza Express as a cheaper and quicker option as an alternative. Spaghetti House definitely is losing this completion. One of my top two places to go whether for a quick bite before theatre etc. or for a whole evening. I like the food which has always been tasty and served hot if it is supposed to be. Good size portions. Service has been prompt and polite without being exactly friendly: importantly I've never been hassled with intrusive enquiries about how I'm enjoying it or whether we want more. Rarely overcrowded. There's no particularly strong atmosphere about the place but it is pleasant enough and there's no annoyingly loud muzak to get in the way of a conversation.

2pm on a Thursday - busy but not that busy. Most of the customers were in the lovely seating area in the arcade while our section inside was almost empty. After a 40 minute wait (we were obviously too polite to say anything before then, foolishly) we were told that our order had been lost. Am sure the food is lovely, but all we managed to sample were the olives. Which were too salty.
