We have recently had a mid-week lunch at St Moritz and while I don't usually publish my views on restaurants I feel inclined to report back this time, especially considering the nature of many of the comments already offered about this eating-place.

The service was exemplary. 2 young ladies were on duty, and they could not have been more charming, efficient and helpful.

Yes, there isn't much spare space but unless you actually want to swing a cat, that is no problem. The food was wonderful: the speciality dish of veal with cream and mushrooms was amazing and the rosti and spatzli just as they should be. There is an interesting and reasonable wine list.

Three elderly people at another table were celebrating a birthday and the waitresses must certainly have added to their enjoyment - their smiling cheerfulness was contagious.

I cannot wait to go back.

I really don’t understand people!!!! Why they come to the restaurant although they know it is so bad…..just to complain???? I came to the St. Moritz few times and I had always a great time. Service was very, very friendly, and food was good. I’ll come back!!!!

In my opinion one of the best restaurants in London. I first went for dinner at St Moritz in 2004 and fell in love with the fantastic service, lovely wine and excellent food. The ambiance is very Swiss and what makes it so special, it is as if you stepped into Switzerland for dinner. The waitress still remembers us from our first visit and is always as welcoming as ever. It is one of the few restaurants where you really feel at home and the reason why I have to pay them a visit every now and then ;) Thank you Paula!

The best restaurant in London. I was there with my friends and we have the best food and service ever - we love fondue! The music it's Swiss, sorry, but the rest it's just perfect. We will be back very soon. thank you!

Do not go there!

I did the same as the other reviewers, i read waht was said, then thought, ok, i will give it a try.

I went a few weeks ago, and now i can laugh at it, but it still kiicks me that I paid £80+ for the two of us. I feel utterly robbed. Would rather have bought 10 Derby football tickets for that price. Ha ha and no, i am not a supporter.

Anyway, the service really is that bad. I had planned to go back there for my birthday with 8 friends if it had been a success the first time, it wasnt.

Over-priced (and i am not cheap), fondue menu was varied, but all around similar ingredients, this is london, time to get into 2008.

May i make a suggestion,

1. Close

2. Re-furbish

3. Replace floor staff with humans

4. Market research

5. Did i mention 'replace the staff'?

Sorry if this is harsh, but i despise incompetence on every level, and while i am patient if i can see people are really trying to please, i cannot agree with theway we were treated.

Other customers were also looked upon more as an inconvenience then a blessing, and trust me, you will really be blessed if you are in business for another 30 years.

Most unfriendly staff ever

My partner and me had been to the restaurant a couple of time before, although service was never particularly friendly, the food was good enough to make us come back. We didn't know what we were in for this time.

we walked in at 6pm which was the time we had a booking for, the closed sign was still on the door and the staff looked at us as if we were crashing their party. We were given the worst table in the whole restaurant although we were the first guests to arrive. The table was crammed into a corner and had to be moved so each of us could squeeze in. It was so close to the neighbouring table, that once someone sat down on that table you basically would lean on each other. When we asked if we could get another table we told a straight out no. when, after a few minutes, we asked a different waitress if we could change tables, she agreed we could have the only other table for two available in the upstairs area of the restaurant. The unbelievable thing was, that when she offered us the other table , she was in the process of leading another couple to that exact table! Her idea was, to the make that other couple sit at our table while we could get theirs. The other couple had heard all our complaining and obviously wasn't happy about what was about to happen to them. So we refused to take the other couple's table and couldn't believe the waitress' suggestion. To make matters worse we were told by the other staff who had gathered around us that the whole issue was our own problem and caused by our inflexibility. We decided to leave and never go back again

This place is terrible! In a very organised fashion we discussed and booked our valentines meal on the 8 January here, only to double confirm again today to find they had lost our booking. We have confirmation in both of our diaries it was booked and were both there at the time of the conversation. When we spoke to them they were rude, unappologetic and absolutely foul, which has made me feel quite happy that we are not eating their tonight. Who would want to eat in a place where they are so dissorganised they can't find your booking and are then foul about it. Bit of a shame though that it means we are missing out of a valentines meal due to us booking with them.

I love this place - it's my favourite restaurant in London not just because of the typical Fondues, but also for the other dishes they offer - absolutely delicious. Even just the mixed salad tastes heavenly! True to swiss style - they really know how to flavor food and the atmosphere is actually more Swiss than Switzerland!
