I ate at Chimes under the £5 for 2 courses Times offer.

The food was great (I had a fantastic melt-in-the-mouth lamb shank for a small suppliment), the service was efficient and the staff were attentive.

My partner had a steak pie with a lovely airy puff pastry top, which was packed full of juicy steak and gravy underneath.

I will be going back to try the pies for myself next time!

I ate here on The Times eat for £5 offer. Game paté to start then steak and mushroom pie were both really tasty. Service with a smile topped it off. I would happily go back and pay normal prices.

Well, having returned since my last review, I can say that I am considerably less impressed. Did I imagine the size of the hotpot last time? Have they suddenly become stingy on the vegetables? They certainly do not appear to be worth the considerable sum of cash one is asked to part with for them.

The service was still excellent, even after the restaurnat was invaded by what seemed to be an entire coach-load of tourists, but the cider is certainly the winner in this seemingly temperamental eaterie.

First visited this wine bar on 3rd Jan 06 following a recommendation. My partner had Pheasant, Orange and Walnut Pie whilst I had Fidget Pie. Both pies were hot and tasty (I would recommend them to anyone). It was refreshing to visit an establishment that served Perry - I haven't seen this offered anywhere outside of Worcestershire before (unless you count that insipid Babycham). Our first meal with drinks cost £29.95. We enjoyed our meal so much we went again last night and sampled their Guinea Fowl, Lamb Shank, Parten Pie and Bread & Butter Pudding. Again everything was hot and yummy. Our second meal cost £38.00. I would gladly recommend this wine bar/restaurant. Where else can you buy proper country wines and I don't mean the ubiquitous Merlot or Chardonnay?

I visited Chimes over the summer, 2005. The cider was, as expected, excellent. I haven't tried the wines, but am planning to do so on my next visit.

The place is large, having three separate areas (bar, dining room, cellar room) but was quite empty, even in the after-work slot. I guess most people can't do without their beer.

The food was wonderful. I don't know what the other people who have commented here were eating, but my friends and myself each had one of the pies or hot-pots and all three were excellent. Tasty, piping hot, real traditional English goodness. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I went ot Chimes with colleagues for a Christmas lunch on 8 Dec. We paid £25 per head for very ordinary food. I had turkey as my main course, which was very fatty and swimming in gravy. The paltes were far too small so that it was diificult to put the potatoes and vegetables on the plate. I definitely would not recommend this resaurant. There was no atmosphere at all.
