The food was terrible.

Served cold with uninspiring chips and the cider I chose was almost undrinkable.

The burger itself was quite tasty but a shame to be cold. It felt like there was no real depth to the meal.

The restaurant at 1pm on a Saturday was deserted which was slightly depressing and it smelt of fried food when we went in.

We had a taste card which was good as I would not have been happy to pay full price.

I've been to Chimes twice now over the last year; and how it has changed. The first time was fantastic - probably the best pie I’ve had in London. Pheasant with orange, port and bacon. It was a great experience and the whole of my party loved the food.

I went recently (December 2010) and experienced a sad and tired meal that was a huge disappointment. A signature burger can sometimes say a lot about a restaurant - mine was overcooked and bland with some pathetic chips and an iceberg lettuce salad. The sauces on all our meals tasted and looked microwaved. The custard for dessert was definitely not fresh and my bread and butter pudding was very rubbery.

I just want to know what has happened over the year - I’ve also tried the fidget pie which was off-menu when i went and that used to be amazing. I want an excuse to go back to Chimes, but they need to rethink their attitude towards to food. Front of house staff are lovely and a good laugh.

Went here on a sunday evening with some friends and was very pleased with it. I ordered the shepherds pie and thought it looked a bit meagre when it arrived in a little pot on its own but it was very deep and filling. A side would have been nice to go alongside it though. The selection of pies is very good although there is only one vegetarian option which is a shame.

There is a great selection of ciders and the price was very reasonable. Dinner for four (two of us had two courses, two had only one) came to £15 each.

Would recommend.

I thought this place was wonderful and everything that you expect from an English pub / restaurant and also what so many other pubs lack. All fresh ingredients and beautifully put together and well seasoned.

So much effort and detail goes into the food and I couldn't imagine anyone being disappointed with it - unless you don't like English pies or traditional English food.

Just the name Fidget pie sounds exciting and it didn't disappoint - full of huge chunks of gammon, potato and apple - it was really perfect.

The service is no-nonsense and the food comes to the table really quickly and piping hot.

It's just a run of the mill, bog standard pub serving food - but also it is so much more.

I would strongly recommend.

I live locally and have been several times. It's noT haute cuisine, nor is it meant to be. Go if you want a pie and veg with some cider.. some not particularly common, or even a fruit beer.

I have been to Chimes a couple of times and always enjoyed the pies and cider. However on my last experience an incredibly rude waitress ruined the whole experience. A shame how one person can ruin such a great pub.

I literally fell in love with Chimes a couple of years ago. I am Italian, and a serious food lover. I sort of believed British cuisine was inexistent, tasteless and watery.

I discovered a totally new gastronomic landscape with the authentic, homelike fresh and tasty cuisine in Chimes.

I love their pies and fish. They make a wise use of spices (choriander with fish), herbs and nuts. Things most chefs forget to use at all. All the ingredients are fresh, the pheasant is soft and smells like it has been hunted the day before in a forest. The vegetables are cooked at a suitable point as to be crunchy and to keep all their taste, with just a slight add of butter to make them perfect.

Mind you, most dishes are of meat, which I usually don't eat much. But there is also a vegetarian pie.

Deserts are perfect, try the raspberry mousse...

The chef was trained in France and Algeria, and sums up all the skills of light refined french cuisine with a good typically arabic knowledge of spices and a perfect interpretation of British peasants' food traditions.
