We ate at the Mango Room recently and absolutley loved it. The cod fritters with apple chutney starter were particularly good although I would recommend a side dish with main courses. We went for the gaot's curry and the cocnut curry chiken, both amazing. Chilled out and relaxed atmosphere, would definatley go again!

A friend booked to a table for four of us at Mango Room for 31/10/06. We had salt cod and the plantain and sweet potato fitters to start. Although the fritters didn't look very big portions they were quite dense, so we probably wouldn't have wanted much more as an appetiser. We'd ordered jerk chicken, goat curry and the chicken breast with coconut curry sauce for mains, and rice and peas, and breadfruit. We thought the food was fabulous. I have no idea if it's 'authentic' as I've nothing to compare it with, but I'd order it again for its own sake. We had desserts and liqueurs / coffee, and had a bottle of wine, and the overall cost including the service charge was under £30 per head. We found the staff attentive and approachable. I hope that more people will have the same positive experience that we did here in future.

I went to this restaurant for a friends birthday, we were all looking forward to the evening as he had read excellent reviwes, however, the reviwes and my experience in the restaurant were completely opposite. For starters, the food wasn't even Caribbean, it was very fake, the curry was not seasoned jus merely meat in a sauce! I saw no Caribbean people serving and it didnt feel authentic at all! The service was minimal and we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated even though we had made reservations! The food was definitely not worth the money, i would have rather gone to KFC and was really considering it! The location is dingey, not classy at all! The actual restaurant had a nice atmosphere, but, we were really cramped and my seat was 1 inch away from the pavement! I was not impressed with the 12.5% service charge, all they did was bring our food....hardly service...just the bare minimum...i will never return to the mango room!!

A group of 6 of us visited mid-week and the restaurant was relatively quiet. We were pleasantly surprised by the surroundings, the politeness and helpfulness of staff and most importantly by the quality of the food. The curry goat was delicious - made with excellent quality meat and well-seasoned (a must with Caribbean cooking)!

The duck was succulent. Only the fish let the meals down - dry and a tiny portion!

The cocktails were a little pricey but we enjoyed them. Overall, a really good night out!

I went to this reataurant on a Monday night and it was completly full. I had to wait about 20 mins to get a table so I ordered a drink - very expensive. My meal was ok - but I expected it to be so much better. I had goats cheese to start with pesto - yes very caribbean! It was very small. My main course was the ackee saltfish - a bit rubbish and also small. It was very loud and rushed - the staff looked stressed and worn out. I couldn't help thinking they wanted to rush us out to get another in. Not a carribbean person in sight. I would of much rather had walkd down to Chalk Farm and got some real Carribean food at Cottons!

I'd heard many things about Mango Room and as I was in the Camden area decided to go for dinner with my boyfriend.

I was impressed with the decor and equally impressed with the choice of dishes on the menu.

I chose the Curry Goat and Basmati Rice and my partner chose the Grilled Chicken and Rice and Peas. We ordered a side dish of plaintain.

I was very impressed with the taste of the curry as Curry Goat can be very 'bony' but this was both succulent and plentiful.

My partner's chicken was well seasoned and the Rice and Peas tasted authentic.

The presentation was good and I liked the way in which they served the plaintain.

I rounded off the meal with a delightful Apple and Pear Strudel with Coconut Ice Cream.

I have grown up with these dishes and knew that I would be unconsciously comparing the food with my mothers.

Well, I must say the Mango Room passed the test.

The bill was reasonable but I wasn't impressed with the 12.5% service charge.

Overall the food was tasty and I am planning on taking my mother to sample some good West Indian cooking!

I would recommend this.

We went there on Saturday, July 2006, and had not realised the restaurant had such a bad reputation up until now. The service was neglectful, the food did not correspond with the menu description, and the food was of poor quality necessitating serval dishes being returned back to the kitchen.

The Mango Room Webpage boasts that it is about "...serving delicious and wholesome food with a clean and stylish presentation that it puts it above other carribean restaurants... with an innovative menu". Eating here was more like booking a holiday through a glossy expensive magazine and getting a holiday from hell experience!

We had to go to the bar to collect our own 'over priced' drinks, the rice dishes were small in quantity plus the goat curry was the worst one I have ever had. The meat was dry, hard, and tasteless instead of soft and spicy with zeal. The meal experience at this restaurant was a worryingly complete big let down for all and definitely not best value for money.

On that note, I have to say my mother's west indian curry goat dish is miles better than the one that was served to me at this restaurant and she is english.

Meaning, there is something seriously lacking with the style of cooking at this restaurant which argubly not the type of authentic, traditional nor modern carribean cooking they claim to serve. In fact a shack restaurant in the carribean could conjure up better innovative dishes.

Instead it attempts to offer a taste of carribean cooking to the dismay of some its customers who know better. Yet the Mango Room continues to boast in its Menu about West Indian favourites such as Curry Goat ect. This is serioulsy misleading and grossly unfair because our expectations of the food and service were are not met.

Our cocktails were served in inappropriate glasses to diners spoiling the visual attractiveness of the cocktail. For instance I ordered a margarita, it arrived in a large bulky drinking glass full of ice, a huge lump of salt dripping from one side, because it was not lightly sprinkled around the glass surround. How shocking. To top it all up, the magarita had hardly any taste with no 'tequila bite'!

I think this restauarant has invested far too much in its decor rather than on the most important asset - who are the customers- without customers you will have no restaurant. To improve the mango room restaurant it needs to hire a good chef who can cook wholesome carribean food with a twist, as well as, review how its waiting staff communicate with their customers to make the meal experience a memorable pleasant one.

I say this because the restaurant surrounding is asthetically pleasing, it has a great atmoshphere but could do more to improve upon its peformance. It's customers travel from different parts of London to dine in Camden but I bet most of them never return to the Mango Room. If this restaurant does sit up and listen to its vital asset then it will risk losing customers in droves. Judging from the written reviews posted on this site so far, in connection to the manago room, its future is not in the heart of the carribean but is in the depths of the ocean.

Although the staff are very slow to be promted the food is worth the wait, reasonably priced and one of the best if not the best carribbean restaurant in london.
