Went on Saturday the 16th of feb for dinner with some friends - Haven't been for years and was very much looking forward to it.. .. What a thoroughly depressing experience... Met by an aggressive brain dead barmaid, who only had a basic grasp of English and no grasp at all about how to deal with the public or work behind a bar - We turned up half an hour early for our 9.30 pm table and was told, " we have to order NOW as the kitchen was closing"... We had to persuade her and her colleague to lay a table for us in the back, as she suggested eating at the bar.... they reluctantly did this, then we waited 50 mins for god awful food served by terrapin brain - on paying the bill we noticed that one of the dishes ( that was inedible) was £5 cheaper off the bar menu, when we questioned this we were told sarcastically that it's the same dish and I TOLD YOU TO EAT AT THE BAR!
One of party was writing an article on London for American GQ, had to beg her no to write anything, in an attempt to defend what was once a fantastic pub...
Left embarrassed, confused, hungry and about £140 lighter...
What a shame...

I LOVE this little pub. Totally hidden away and would never had come across it had my boyfriend not steered me in this direction one rainy and miserable evening. Its got a super atmosphere, tends to get quite busy towards the end of the week and often trick to find seats so on more than one occasion I've found myself perched at the bar! Very welcoming though, not sure why there are the complaints about grumpy staff as whenever I have been there they have all been incredibly pleasant and attentive! Worth a trip if you are in the Knightsbridge area.

I ate at the Grenadier on a Sunday lunch. At the arrival the pub was fully booked due to limited number of tables, but after a 15 minutes wait we have been accomodated. The ambient is very nice, small and warm athmosfere, the service is on average. I understand that the pub was very busy but this should be a reason to have some more staff. The food was great, we really enjoyed it. I had a lamb shoulder with vegetables and mash potatoes;delicious!! The pub is also very good for drinks because is in a very quite area and is not permitted to smoke inside. I will come back and I reccommend to try it.

I ate here on Sunday and while the food was good the service was abysmal.
It would be fine just having one waitress as it's a tiny place - if said waitress showed even a vague interest in customer service.
She tried to hurry us into ordering, saying: "I've got to get the orders to the kitchen quickly"!! A dreadful start, and things didn't improve.
The salmon was well cooked with a delicious sauce but the experience was definitely lessened by the staff.
Lovely pub for a drink though.

I have thought about eating here for years. the pub is in a fantastic olde worlde location. The restaurant always seemed to have poeple in there( usually a reliable sign).
I will cut to the chase. The staff are indeed very polite( if not a bit TGI friday automated)but the food from start to finish was truly diabolical. Anyone with half a brain nowadays can buy a cook book, follow a recipe and cook themselves a great dish. I can not believe that a place like this can continue to serve food of a standard less than you would get in a greasy spoon.
i can assume only two things. That the chef had walked out that evening or that their oven had broken.
verdict overall. pub is great 8/10. please dont ruin your evening, wallet and taste buds by walking into the restaurant part. There is a McDonalds just round the corner that do a great burger for a fraction of the price.
