I've been to many sushi restaurants, but Ichi-Riki is by far the best sushi I've ever tasted. I've visited the restaurant about 6 or 7 times now, and the food has been consistently amazing every time. Staff have always been polite, respectful and cheeful, though once there was a bunch of very drunk rude obnoxioius business men who ruined our evening by being loud, racist and smoking even when asked not to and I felt the staff should have kicked them out or apologised to us or something. The food though is just so good, if you like sushi you have to eat here.

What a great little spot. Quite hard to find as it's doorway is small and you go downstairs but it is bright and airy in spite of that. Service was prompt and very friendly. We ordered a selection of nigiri and maki with a special treat of a dragon roll - all excellent - the dragon roll and the yellowfin nigiri especially so. We enjoyed sake at the perfect temperature and were given little bowls of salad and a spicy roll of some kind as a treat from the chef - I love it when restaurants do this, it makes you feel so appreciated.

I love sushi and eat it and make it a lot but as I work just round the corner from this fantastic establishment I can see me being tempted more often!

Someone earlier mentioned the music - there was no music that I was aware of - just the sounds of very happy customers!

If you like really good sushi and are prepared to pay just a little more for top quality stuff you can do a lot worse than visit Ichi-riki

Cheap and cheerful aptly describe this charming little restaurant. For a quick fix of fresh sushi or sashimi, be it lunch or dinner, Ichi-Riki is a must.

The restaurant itself is relatively small, almost bunker like. But any claustraphobic fears are allayed by the presence of the medium sized kitchen (positioned among the dinners) which opens up the confines of this establishment.

I was fortunate enough to recently try a selection of chicken and seafood maki rolls which were vibrant and made before us. A salmon teriyaki set followed for mains which, though appetizing, was not on par with the freshness of the maki rolls.

Service was good and all the staff were pleasant. We're glad to have found this little gem and will return again soon.

In most respects my review below of Sept 2006 still stands, even though last year's new, bigger menu has brought new, (slightly) bigger prices.

However, be warned that the gentle 'Japanese' background music has recently, bafflingly, been replaced by MOR crooners, played far too loud for this tiny room. Even more bafflingly, the staff are incredibly bolshy - through much polite smiling - in response to the mildest request to turn it down, as I found out twice recently, once when the room was almost empty. The second time I left, fed up and unfed, and I won't be back till they fix this. But it is very odd: I must say I don't associate Sod the Customer with Japanese service in general; have they paid a 12-year-old consultant lots of money to tell them they must do this?

Superb. Having just relocated from Soho we were desperate to find some (any!)decent sushi in Victoria. This place is the real deal - if you like proper sushi go here and don't bother with Yo! in the station.

I've just been to Ichi-Riki for lunch, and it was excellent. The sushi was made up freshly in front of us (you can sit at the bar as well as at tables), by a couple of Japanese chefs who clearly knew what they were doing. The service was careful and polite. And the place was busy throughout, giving it a great atmosphere. I recommend it.

There seems to be a hatchet job being done on this restaurant. I eat here at least once a week. Yes, the old owners are missed but the new owners are every bit as charming and hospitable. The sushi's still great and the place is still brimming with punters. Ignore those bad-mouthing Ichi-Riki, it's still a fantastic restaurant! As a previous reviewer said "a little gem".

I suspect this is the worst place I have eaten a meal! Well I never got to eat. They apologused cause they charge 200 pounds of drinks that we did not have!!they does not know how to run the restaurant, because the not Japanese? or they have no common sence.Any way we paid the bill and went to another Japanese restaurant near by, which was really nice.We are still laughing but no we wouldn't recommend this place unless you want some expensive drinks....

This used to be a great little lunch-time gem. But since it's been taken over, the sushi is rubbery with little flavour and the rice crumbles apart. Even my favourite unagi is bland and chewy. It seems to have become a little cheaper but at the expense of the qaulity of the food.

Lovers of good, reasonably priced sushi can safely ignore the pasting posted below, which is obviously malicious. I have just been two days running and I am glad to report food, service and value are easily up to the standard set by Junko and her husband before they retired from the business. And now the boite is air-conditioned. Unbeatable!
