I went there last night with my boyfriend, mis-led by all the raving reviews. It is the worst chinese food I had in London. It is not chinese food. There is nothing sizhuan or beijing or hunan about it. it is simply a westernized chinese fast food. we had 3 dishes. sizzling beef. double cooked pork (suggested by someone on the web) and mix vege. in simple terms, they are identical in colour and taste, used exactly the same black bean sauce with excess oil. It puts me in shame of my chinese heritage that people can produce such a bad food to represent chinese food in the european world. this is not what chinese food should be. This is simply shameful that at the end of the meal the lady (owner?) suggested us to pay additional one or 2 pound on the bill for tips while a full 15% service charge has already been charged, despite the fact that they forget our drink order/served late/dirty chopstick/bad food. The quality of tea served is the worst chinese tea you can find.

Went to this restaurant on Saturday (14th April) on a whim and hadn't read the reviews. Actually I was glad I hadn't as I might not have gone !
There were two of us and we had the set meal (I think 'Kym's Banquet) which I must say was absolutely delicious. Every single course was lovely, sweet and sour king prawns I think was the highlight and definitely worth mentioning was the starter of crispy lettuce leaves with a tasty chicken filling.
It was only when we were halfway through the meal that we realised we hadn't been given any prawn crackers....but I guess that's a minor niggle (and we hadn't asked for them, just normally provided in my experience !)
Service very good and wine price reasonable...we had house red which was excellent value for money.
Forgot to notice that service was already included and tipped on top....but I did think it was value for money and service was good so I don't regret it.

Really disappointed. I booked a table for myself and 5 of my dental colleagues to celebrate my birthday. First impressions - the wallpaper was old, dining was cramped and the place was devoid of atmosphere (almost clinical, I thought this would improve once more diners arrived but it didn't).
The food was ok. The service was not particularly great. Given that it says on it's website it prides itself in being a family-owned restaurant, I expected to get a more personal service than you would in a chain restaurant. In fact, the service was some of the worst I've received in many a year. They then had the gall to add a non-optional 12.5% service charge to the bill (this had nothing to do with our group size, you'd get it for a party of one!).
Perhaps the worst thing that happened which put a real spoiler on what was otherwise a perfect birthday evening out with friends was when we were blocked by staff from leaving the place in front of all the other diners. No explanation as to why other than to be shoving the bill and credit card receipts in our faces. We figured something must be wrong so my friend got out her calculator. Turned out our £118 bill was 5p short. I do not believe there was a need to create such a scene in front of other diners for the sake of 5p which was anyway part of the 12.5% service charge they had added on. It was certainly not our intention to short change them by 5p (if we could afford to dine there, we could certainly afford 5 pence) The whole incident was petty and embarrassing. For the sake of 5p, they lost future custom from 6 people. It's a shame for the restaurant. Next time I need a Chinese fix, I shall be trying Dim-t a few doors down. I'm sure the food nor service could be any worse.

Food was good..we loved the sizzling beef with black bean sauce and the soft shell crab (appetiser). Well, service was quite good. Staffs were attentive and next time we would try the set menus. there are several choices and the price quite reasonable.

I've been to Kym's a few times previously, and have always thought that the food was ok. Tonight however, was a huge disappointment. Everything was dry and chewy, and deep-fried. It was completely inedible. The service would have been excellent, except that at the end, they asked if we wanted to pay a tip on top of the 12.5% service charge. She was insistent, and we didn't want to cause a scene (we were sitting outside), so paid up.
I wouldn't go there again, and wouldn't recommend this restaurant. It's too expensive for what it is, and even if it was cheaper, I wouldn't put such horrendous food, if you can call it food, into my body.

This is a restaurant with good quality food, fine friendly service, good atmosphere at a very reasonable price. Its located in a lively part of Victoria opposite the Prince of Wales pub. I would highly recommend Soft Shell Crab and Mau Po Bean Curd. The second dish is a very traditional and common chinese dish. However, I was impressed with the taste and quality of ingredients. Highly recommended. Will definately come again.

The food was OK and it was reasonable value for money, but what got me was that they added 12.5% service charge and then asked me if I wanted to give 'an extra tip'. When I told the staff they were getting 12.5%, they said they didn't get that, it went straight to the management. So I told them to cancel the credit card payment, knock off the 12.5% and I'd pay it in cash so they got it. They refused. I told them I wouldn't be eating there again.
